Swim
Comments: Was really calm first 50 or 75 yds. Then I got my goggles punched off! I was going really good, felt like I was going to have my best swim ever. Breathing was really relaxed until then. Then, I struggled putting goggles back on...couldn't stand up there, and kept gulping water and getting hit by other swimmers. That blew everything for me. I couldn't breathe or get in a rythm after that. On the way back, I felt water going down my legs in side my wetsuit... that was wierd. Also, one guy clocked me in the face pretty good on the way back too... didn't hit the goggles though. At least he stopped to apologize. That was nice. When I got out of the water finally, and went to unzip my wetsuit, it was already unzipped!!! Fully!!! >:-( I was pissed! I'm sure that took a minute off at least. What would you do differently?: I don't know... I couldn't really stay away from everyone else. It was a tight course. Transition 1
Comments: I was so winded from the swim, and my arms/hands weer frozen. I couldn't function at all. I was #170 in T1. Worse T1 ever! Wetsuit came off in a breeze. Had to sit down though. Socks went on in a snap. Left shoe went on with a little trouble. Right shoe wouldn't go on at all! It was too tight. I fumbled with that at least 30 seconds before I finally realized I should open another velcro strap. Then it went in with a little trouble. Had to put my Garmin Forerunner 405 on because I can't swim with it. Also, took rest of my creatine/hammergel and 4 enduralytes. What would you do differently?: Get a better rack position. Put a big obnoxious flag at rack so can find easily. Try on bike shoes ahead of time to make sure they are set to slip on. Bike
Comments: I rocked the bike course! My best ever. John gave me his aero bars 2 weeks ago. Man, what a difference! Feet got numb towards the end, but no leg pains/cramping for a change :-) On Weymouth, saw a guy laying in the grass next to his bike, and a couple other riders kneeling next to him, and a painter truck stopped with the occupants rushing to the rider, and an ambulance heading there too. Not sure what happened. On Park Ave saw a horrific crash. People were taking there feet out of their shoes, while others were making a final push. I was in front of the big group at that point, and I hear a girl scream behind me and a collision, I turn around to see a guy with no shirt on in the air and land on his back. Ouch! Can you say road rash! (been there, done that.... at 60mph on a motorcycle!) I downshifted on the uphills and spun while others pushed and passed me, then I pushed on the downhills and passed them right back. That worked great! Had bottle of gatorade/salt/2 drops ceratine. Only drank around 3/4 of it, but forced that much in. What would you do differently?: Probably was drinking too much cuz had the kind of stomache slushing around feeling on run. Transition 2
Comments: Couldn't find rack! Lost at least 10 seconds looking. Think I knocked the rack next to me over... not sure... I felt me hit it and turned around and it was down. not sure if I did it, so I lfet there. People whose rack it was just layed bikes down. Got shoes on quick. Was 61st place. Would've been a lot better if I found rack right away. What would you do differently?: Put obnoxious flag at rack to find easy. Run
Comments: Bottom of feet were numb the whole run! Also, the bottom of both feet, right behind balls of feet, felt like I had about 1/2 inch bar in my shoe right under my feet! It hurt so bad. I didn't push the run because of that pain. I thought I would seriously hurt something if I did. I could've ran much faster, but I knew I was not in contention after that horrible swim and T1. I actually stopped about 1/4 mile into run and took off shoe to make sure nothing was actually in there. I was 13:55 at the 2 mile mark, sub 7's... a lot faster than I thought, so I picked it up after that. Saw them setting up the standard DQ blow-up finish line, so I was looking for that to begin my sprint.... but it wasn't at the finish, so I had a very short sprint when I finally saw the finish mat. What would you do differently?: Adjust bike shoes or get new ones so feet don't go numb! Post race
Warm down: Waited for John & Rich to finish. Feeling came back to the bottom of my feet and pain went away immediately after finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Goggles punched off, wetsuit came unzipped, arms/hands numb, bike shoes too tight to slide on, numb/painful feet in run. Besides that, nothing. I'm probably in best physical shape of my life right now. Keep getting faster!! :-) Event comments: Transition area needs to be a lot bigger. Couldn't hear pre-race brief from the water. Had to get all the info from people who did race before. (they told us to head to the water, then gave the brief) Last updated: 2008-05-26 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:30, drank gatorade, got dressed. Didn't eat anything. Went to John's at 6:30, loaded up and left. Got there way too late (I wanted to leave at 6:00... now he agrees we should've left earlier... got a crappy rack spot)
Drank only half of my hammergel/creatine/salt/water mix... and forgot to take my enduralytes because last minute I realized I left my swim cap in the car. I had to run with my wetsuit on 100yds to get a new cap, then run back. Stretched a little bit. Swam maybe 50yds total warmup.
