Swim
Comments: I thought I was doing much better than my overall time showed. While I seemed to keep getting off course, I felt like I was swimming well. Either I wasn't swimming as well as I thought or I was all over the place. My 1/2 mile swim became a 3/4 mile swim! What would you do differently?: ummm...swim more! left arm seems to come toward me during pull phase, pulling me left. Started working on cupping my hand outward so that my hand can't pull me left, but learning a new skill in the middle of a race doesn't work real well. Transition 1
Comments: Went fine, although my transition mat and stuff had been moved. Didn't know it was a rule that you had to keep your stuff inside the racks. Mine wasn't in anybody's way, but they moved it anyway. So I had to go around my bike (which I wasn't expecting/ to get my stuff. What would you do differently?: Read the rule book Bike
Comments: Wanted to push the bike pace this time to see what I could do. Started off okay, but quickly got into a fracas with some guy that wanted to pass and then slow down. Yelled at him to pick a pace, and he finally passed me until just after the 1/2 way point when he backed off and I passed him. I was planning on negative splitting the bike, and it worked well. Only problem was that I swallowed too much air during the swim and my stomach felt horrible for 3/4 of the ride. What would you do differently?: Not much of anything. I hammered well. Drinking went better this time because of the 2-3 downhill areas that I could afford to get out of the aerobars for a couple seconds. Legs felt heavy & stiff, but I had a good hard ride Transition 2
Comments: Went fine. Legs (hamstrings) cramped very hard as soon as I got off the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much Run
Comments: Hamstring cramps killed me starting out. Legs never loosened up, never felt quick. Hot. What would you do differently?: Taper better. Lack of riding/running all week, hard work outside for the job all left me dehydrated, stiff, and slow. Post race
Warm down: Stumble around, drink water until the kid's tri started. My daughter was racing it. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming!!!! and sub-par run. Swimming from lack of experience and crookedness, run from bad taper week. Need to learn this better. Event comments: Well-organized race. Good food, drinks, prizes Last updated: 2008-05-26 12:00 AM

Pop-tarts, 1 cup coffee, drive to race, set up transition area. Same as always
Rode for about 10 min to try and loosen up. Legs felt heavy and stiff. Harbinger of things to come. Took a gel. Bad idea.
