Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45AM and had my normal breakfast just like every other day...cereal. I left for the race around 5:15 and got to the transition area by 5:45.
Event warmup:

8 minute run and 15 minute bike
Swim
  • 14m 46s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim was very poor. Many of us in the second wave got off course before the 2nd bouy because of the sun and swam easily an extra 200 yards. The waves behind us were delayed a bit while some of event staff got us back on track. My breathing was not very good. I got a little panicky for some reason. I struggled through the whole swim and lost a lot of time.
What would you do differently?:

Study the course better

Comments:

I did pretty good here I think.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 37m 43s
  • 15 miles
  • 23.86 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a super fast bike today. I was extremely happy with almost a 24MPH average. This was my first race with my new HED Jet C2 60/90 and they are super fast. I am sure they contributed to my good bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I struggled a bit tying my shoe laces. I need to look into different shoe options.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe different shoes
Run
  • 19m 25s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a goal to run sub 6.5 min miles and I did that. I was very happy with my run time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Water, apple, banana. I felt totally fine after the race. I stretched a bit and I was good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim sucked. Getting off course cost me easily 2 minutes. I need to work on my open water swimming more.

Event comments:

I will be here again next year. It was a good race to break up my 70.3 training. Lake Minnetonka is a great place to have a race. My goal was to go under 1 hour and 15 minutes which I did so I am happy overall with the race.

Overall: 125/400
Performance: Bad
Suit: Full
Course: Point to point which was great. One of the bouys was directly in the path of the sun rising up over the lake. It made sighting extremely difficult. The race director said he is going to change it up a bit next year so there are no problems.
