Swim
Comments: Alot different than lap swimming!! I got off to a good start, on pace to break my best training time... and then I caught up to some slower swimmers, and since I am not strong enough to blow past them I had to stop twice, tread water, and restart. This took alot of energy out of me, but I still finished the swim only one minute slower than my best training time!! What would you do differently?: First of all I need to take some swim lessons and learn how to swim faster so I can motor by the slower people, but next time I'm going to start with faster swimmers so they can pass me up, and then I won't have to break pace!! Transition 1
Comments: The swim took a lot out of me and I didn't even come close to getting out of T1 with the time I expected to get out of there with... too slow What would you do differently?: Not sure, I didn't have a problem getting into my shoes or getting out to the bike course, the problem was getting to the bike racks from the swim approx. 100 yards and at least half of that I walked fast instead of running... treading water twice and restarting took alot of energy out of me!! Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike and rebounded from the swim quite well. To date just under my best training time. Got off a little slow and got stuck behind some folks, but only briefly. Rode on the left most of the way. What would you do differently?: Not much to do differently except train harder to ride faster Transition 2
Comments: Rode my bike w/my running shoes on so I didn't have to change. This transition was more of what I expected from T1 What would you do differently?: Run faster with my bike back into bike rack Run
Comments: I was pretty happy w/my run considering I had to stop training for two weeks before race to let my plantar facitis recoup from overtraining four weeks earlier, and never running more than a mile consistantly in my entire life until my 45th b-day back in april, as well as quitting smoking approx. 1 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day back in mid feb What would you do differently?: First of all I need to take care of my plantar facitis (orthotics?) so I can train harder Post race
Warm down: Stretch and walk What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall the swim killed me and got me off to a weak start. Other than that I was pretty happy w/my first tri...I wasn't first, but I wasn't last either. This was my first sporting event since high school. So I was happy to finish Event comments: Overall their is definately room for improvement, but I started training for this event three weeks into a thirteen week training plan, which only had me training for minutes, not speed or technique. I am very excited about doing at least two tris next year. I plan to take the winter to work on my swimming, I believe this will help me the most to improve. I also want to start training for speed and technique in all three phases so that I can improve and maybe move up to the olympic distance by next year. Who knows, the next olympics are only four short years away....LOL!!! Last updated: 2008-05-26 12:00 AM
