Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel with peanut butter on the way over; Reno got me a hot chocolate from Starbucks. We arrived at about 6:30 to pick up our race numbers and hit the portapotties before the start. I was VERY glad I wore my UnderArmour tights, as it was a bit nippy.
Event warmup:

None, really!

Comments:

Took a couple of miles to warm up, then the middle was pretty good. Reno was timing us and went 4:1 for a while, then cut back to 3:1. At about the 7-mile mark, we stopped for a pee break. He went back to 4:1 for a while. I got into some difficulty after the 9- or 10-mile mark and he cut it to 2:1. I was really having trouble with my legs from the beginning of the race, but it got bad at about mile 11. I was whimpering! Then I found a groove at mile 12 and put my head down and jogged the rest of the way. He wanted to stop for a walk break, but I couldn't--I'd have never been able to start up again. He had to go faster than I could, so he ran on ahead, but I did not stop until I finished the race. I was staring at the yellow lines in the middle of the trail, just moving from one to the next. I even kicked it up a little at the end.
What would you do differently?:

The guy who did the massage on my legs afterward said it was probably hydration (lack thereof, actually!) that was the cause of the problem. Since I haven't run this far at a go before, I believe it. My legs were in total spasm by the time I finished, and I was cussing when he did the Active Release Technique on them; it helped, though. I shall find the nutrition/hydration plan that works, and find a yoga class!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, ate fruit and cookies. Got the above-mentioned ART, which hurt like holy hell. We ate at J. Christopher's, which was very pleasant.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

TIGHT HAMSTRINGS!!!

Event comments:

I never found the Gatorade station, which might have helped. The volunteers were awesome, especially some kids from Campbell High School at about mile 7. They were cheering and encouraging us on...very nice!
