Swim
Comments: I think I went hard at the beginning and I was definitely sucking wind towards the end never really found a groove but I know I was thinking and did open my stroke abit about half-way Got stung by a jellyfish rounding the last bouy (literally I was maybe a foot away and got stung on the left side of my neck) My wetsuit was stuck on my arms due to I ran out of bodyglide before the race started What would you do differently?: Swim/practice more before a race Transition 1
Comments: I tried a new way to get on the bike which worked out fine except when I put my shoes on the bike, I put them on the wrong sides so I was riding and trying to switch sides with the shoes....it sucked bad What would you do differently?: put my shoes on the correct side before the race starts - MORE BODY GLIDE ON ARMS!!!(I ran out before I started) not having enough on the arms made it impossible to take the wetsuit off Bike
Comments: Had an awesome ride really gained time on the small hills and I could tell everyone else was sucking on the hills, but since I rode my bike in PA when I went home and there hills everywhere it really did help for this race. What would you do differently?: put my shoes on the correct side before the race starts as Other then that, I think I had a really good ride coming from my last triathlon which was around 19mph average I think I was around 22 - 24mph average Transition 2
Comments: Almost forgot to take my helmet off, but overall had a great transition What would you do differently?: - Try training without socks - Pick up my gps for the run to know my pace Run
Comments: I was really hurting on the run and I knew that coming into the race What would you do differently?: Run more before a race and sadly it was just 3 miles Post race
Warm down: just tried to get fluids in me, other then that I rode my bike to my car and after I shower now I am going to stretch What limited your ability to perform faster: my glutes were tight on the bike and my running ability...well there was none there today Event comments: except for the jellyfish sting, It was a good race, would of really been alot faster if I had run more in training for the race. Got up at 4am to be on the road by 4:30am
Breakfast: 2 peices of toast w/ peanut butter and 1 banana
and started to hydrate myself more since I figured it would be hot.
Was on the road by 4:22am to be at least in Yorktown at 5:30am
----
Before I got there I thought I had plenty of gas to make it...apparently not so I stopped and tried to get gas and the station I went to was not giving me gas for whatever reason. I knew there was a Wawa up ahead, pulled in filled up with 3 gallons (at this point I was stressing a bit thinking there was going to be no parking and I would be late) and continued on my way to the race. Found some random parking lot and parked so I would at least have someplace to be.(ended up being one of the early ones)
Parked, got my bike off the rack and pumped the tires, filled the aero bottle and put on my water bottles on the hydrotail.
Got to my spot nice and early and set out my transition area and began to walk around to see the course set up, swim exit and bike and run start / finish.
What helped me was I used electrical tape on the supports on my rack since I was next to the end and because of that I never got lost on my transition area.
after walking the course, stretched and ran about 1 - 1.5miles to get my legs loose and just get warmed up.
also swam to the first bouy and back before the swim started not to sure if this helped me or not.
