Pre-race routine:

Didn't really have one other than setting up my transition area. Because I got there early I was able to pick a spot on the end of the rack for more transition changing space.
Event warmup:

Got my wetsuit on and jumped in the 72 degree water to warm up the arms.
Swim
  • 20m 12s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

My 3rd ever OWS (glad I did the first 2!) and was shocked that the water was 72 degrees! Last weekend's OWS was a freezing cold 60! I went in at the back of my wave to avoid the chaos. I just did my usual pace to conserve energy because I know I am a slow swimmer. Had a few run-ins with others but they could have been worse.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more. Swim more, and swim more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

This was my first time stripping off my suit under pressure. I just took my time and it came off easy. I think its harder to get it on than off.

I was right by the transition area entrance from the swim so I had to run in my cleats.
What would you do differently?:

I guess start to learn to get into my shoes on the bike rather than putting them on and running in them like a penguin.
Bike
  • 52m 4s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Glad I previewed the course two weeks ago because the uphill is a monster. I just got into my easiest gear and cranked up the hill. Overall I was passing EVERYONE. I think I was passed once. I basically ripped the course to shreds and it showed because I did 31st best of the day!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing drastic. Justride more hills and ride even more hills. Can't ride enough of em!
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Not much to say here. Went as fast as I could.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to do flying dismounts instead of stopping and getting off.
Run
  • 28m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Went as fast as my legs would allow. I got faster as the run went along. I wish the course wasnt as rough because I knew I could have gone harder than I did. I was passed by everyone who I passed on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Run more, run more and run more.

I didnt do too much running over the past two weeks, so my speed was slow.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a banana and some yucky gatorade. Glad I had some extra water at transition because that was some NASTY gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience. This was my first triathlon.

Event comments:

For my first triathlon ever, I am going to call this mission successful! I tore it up on the bike and I learned that I need to step it up in the swim and run training. My bike training is on the right course.
