Total Time = 1h 23m 52s
Overall Rank = 19/239
Age Group = 45-49M
Age Group Rank = 1/13
Pre-race routine:

Only just registered on Friday night - Decision to race was made just a few days before and was part of my adopted strategy that to get fast you need to race a lot..

Drove to Macon early Sat.

Oatmeal/Bananas
Event warmup:

Jogged a little on the beach.
Swim
  • 16m 15s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Majority of folks were in wetsuits and I could have done that too, I guess. I made no attempt to hammer any part of the swim and time and place reflect that..This is about to become a project for improvement. Sighted ok/Swam ok and I plan to make it better.
What would you do differently?:

Show up on race day closer to actualization: What do I want out of this experience?

'Welcome to my EST Seminar, my name is alltom1.'
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Clearly made up time in T1..Shoes in pedals/No shirt/Helmet and shades on the run.
Bike
  • 41m 31s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.68 mile/hr
Comments:

All I could think about on the bike was about the poor folks doing the Half. Course was a little bit relentless. Throw in some heat and I am sure it made for a quite challenging ride.

For my own part, I rode hard, was passed by no one and reeled in every rider in sight up to the end.
What would you do differently?:

The only way I could have gone faster was if I had known the course from experience. If I do the race again, everything else being equal, I can go faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Quick and Smooth
Run
  • 23m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

The fly in the ointment, right here. Not satisfied/Needs work

Felt ok out of T2 but w/in a mile, legs were stiff and will to push was not there. I passed a couple of people, got passed by some folks from earlier waves and couldn't have given up any places in AG but my head and my heart are telling me I should run faster.
What would you do differently?:

I have already started hitting the track to regain some speed I had at the end of last season and by the end of the year we'll see.
Post race
Event comments:

I won my AG - There was one guy who went 3rd OA from 45-49M but other than him, it was a legit podium for me. I think I can get even better.

I love sprints. You show up an hour before the race; Go hard; Go home.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who stood around in that Middle Georgia heat so bums like me can race..Thanks.
