Swim
Comments: Beat last year's time on this swim course by 1:12 min. I sighted one of the yellow buoys incorrectly on the return leg - I thought a yellow buoy, which was actually marking the right-hand side of the return leg was the buoy around which we would turn to exit the water. As a result, I crossed from left-to-right and passed in front of several swimmers (probably ticking them off) What would you do differently?: Taken a closer look at swim course to know buoys better. Transition 1
Comments: T1 pretty slow for me. Definitely slower than last year, even considering the fact that T1 was further away than it was last year. Didn't move with great urgency. What would you do differently?: Start with bike shoes on bike, and would have run out of T1 barefoot. Couldn't help the fact the wetsuit was a little tough to get off, but would have acted with greater urgency - have focus on making T1 as fast as possible. Bike
Comments: Did ok on the bike. Nothing special. Obviously need to work on biking more. Raced with Dave Buysse for much of the bike. What would you do differently?: Bike more. More T.I.T.S. Transition 2
Comments: Did not take bike shoes off before getting off of bike, which probably slowed my transition time down. Had to run in to T2 with bike shoes on. Didn't know how to run out of T2. Almost ran out of the wrong area. What would you do differently?: Looked for run out exit point before the race started. Taken shoes off while still on bike. Run
Comments: Pace faded out throughout run. Not by much, but I wanted to be able to run faster than I did. Hoped I could run 7:00/mile throughout the race. What would you do differently?: Would have started out with a 7:30/mile for first mile, and would have incrementally increased the pace with the aim of continual negative splits. Would not have tried to get 7:00/mile right off the bat. Post race
Warm down: No real cool down. Walked around a bit. Got a 20 minute massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure. Event comments: Performed better in swim, bike, and run than last year. Transitions were slower, but still 30 seconds better than last year overall. Last updated: 2008-06-01 12:00 AM

Jess and I woke up at 4:45 AM. My nutrition and transition bag was already ready to go, so I just washed up and got my pre-race food in (cold Pizzaria Uno deep dish pizza) prior to leaving the house at 5:30 AM. Made it to transition area by 5:50 AM.
Got my area set up, took care of pre-race pit stop, and went on 10 minute warm-up run with Bethany Allen. Did a few pick-ups at end of run. After warm-up run, made one more pit stop at port-a-potties, and then put my wet suit on and headed out into water with my wave (male military, Clydesdale, and challenged athletes).
