Total Time = 2h 59m 49s
Overall Rank = 675/1111
Age Group = Super Clydes
Age Group Rank = 5/16
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45am and at a peanut butter/banana sandwich. Drank a 32oz gatorade and ate a banana around 5:35 and drank more fluids. Drove from OC to LA with Rob.
Event warmup:

Stood around for ever, relaxed and then swam about 200 yards to warm up.
Swim
  • 29m 32s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. felt fine. Tried drafting off a few people, but each one of them either was too fast (6 min faster split) or way too slow.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

My spot was right neat the exit. I did very good here considering we had to pack up our gear for them to take it to T2. I was very happy with the run in from the water to the T1. I once was never tired as I ran through the sand and into the T1. I had to slightly nudge 5-6 sprint swimmers so they would get out of my way, they were walking and I wasn't going to.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 28s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I broke a spoke in the first 2 miles which prevented me from torquing up hills and going full speed down hills. It made my front wheel wobble a little bit and I was careful not to go crazy downhill. I maxed at 38mph, but I could have hit 40+mph easily!!!
What would you do differently?:

Not have a broken spoke (front wheel). I would have/could have had the 1-3 fastest split instead of 5th fastest. I KNOW THIS!
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Quick T2, but wasted a little time putting socks on, other than that, it was a good T2--had Rob (omega) yelling at me during the T2...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 05m 22s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I started out good, then the hill came. I hate that hill. I mean hate that hill. I ran 1/2 way up each time but had to walk up the steepest part...I actually had to push on my quads as I walked up. I really don't know how some people ran up that thing.
With the hill (2x), I still was somewhat happy with the pace. If I would have "speed walked" up the hill a little more and cut out approx total of 1:30 of walking, I would have placed 4th overall instead of 4th. Actually, I could have placed 3rd overall for superclydes!
What would you do differently?:

No matter what, I wouldn't have walked the 1:30-2min of the run. There was no need to do that. It was mind over pain and I lost that battle for 2 min.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a lot while drink plenty of water and ate a banana. I had trouble cooling down because the sun was getting really hot!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

besides poor and unconsistant training, the HILL on the run limited my ability to go faster. Also, my broken spoke limited how fast i was willing to push it on the bike. I could have and should have finished in 3rd place

Event comments:

I could have placed 3rd. I could have actually placed in a triathlon. Now it is just in the super clydes division, but frick...I was probably the biggest super clyde there. One guy that I thought was big only weighed 255...where I have 20lbs on him.

This is my final race at LA. The race is too expensive and the seperate transitions is dumb.
