Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/56
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:15, had bagel, banana and a couple cups of coffee and then headed to the race.
Event warmup:

A quick swim but that was it.
Swim
  • 10m 18s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm not sure if the swim was long or what but everyone's times were slow. THere is no way I swam at a 2:34 pace so I'm guessing the swim was longer then 440 yards.

First two hundred yards or so I had a trouble with my breathing - for some reason I wasn't exhaling under water. Once i figured that out, the rest of the swim went fine.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on breathing right out of the gate.
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

no problems here. Not the fastest but not bad either considering it was a bit of a jog to the T area.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 46m 56s
  • 17 miles
  • 21.73 mile/hr
Comments:

It was a PB for me on the bike so no complaints! Previous best was 20.2 mph.

HR was Z4/Z5 most of the ride but I didn't feel too tired so I just ignored it. I did use my inhaler about half way through the race and that seemed to help.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

No problems here either. It was really nice seeing my HR down in zone 1 leaving the transition area. The additional biking seems to have paid off as I felt pretty good heading out to the run.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 26m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Also had a PB on the run. The run is my biggest weakness and I've never been able to run sub 9 minute mile in a race so I was very happy with managing an 8:39 pace. Probably could have pushed it a bit harder but this is the first time I felt good on the run so I kept waiting for that "i'm about to die" feeling to hit, but it never did.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for my wife to finish, then we grabbed some food and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run.

Event comments:

Overall I thought they put on a good race. The transition area is really crowded and I wasn't a fan of the last 1/4 mile of the bike but I'm not sure they have a lot of choices.
