Swim
Comments: Well I lack confidence in swimming and underestimated myself greatly. I can swim much better than my time dictates. I started in the back in fear of being too slow and being in the way. So I got stuck in a pack of back and breast strokers. When I could swim I felt good and had a good stroke but that was very shortlived. When I came out of the water someone yelled that I was in about 100th place out of 137. What would you do differently?: Start towards the front and let people pass me if they can. Transition 1
Comments: Being late to the race put me in about the crappiest spot in transition so I could have actually been even faster. Overall I thought this was a good T1 for my first ever. I didn't bother putting on a shirt just put on my shoes and helmet and ran my bike out. What would you do differently?: Get to the race earlier and thus get a better rack spot. Bike
Comments: I am not the greatest cyclist but the turnarounds gave people alot of trouble and I had to wait as they navigated them. This cost me some time. I kept a 25-26mph pace while riding but overall avg. killed by turnarounds What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Racked my bike, threw on my shoes (yanks help) shucked my helmet and ran off to my run. What would you do differently?: Again closer rack spot. Run
Comments: Horrible run. I can bang out times better than this any day of the week in training. I just was ill prepared. Only did a few bricks and had zero practice running in deep soft sand. Though in my brick training I did do longer rides and runs I still felt horrible on this run. What would you do differently?: Train more. Practice running in the heat and on sand. Post race
Warm down: Basically got my finishers medal, pulled off my shoes and went and laid down in the ocean for a minute or two before I was attacked by my children. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of adequate training. I need to train in more race like conditions. Especially in regards to the heat. Event comments: Don't have much to compare to but I was happy with every aspect of this race. I would definitely do it again and may just do the mini again next year instead of the sprint to exact my revenge on a course that I should be able to do in about 25 minutes. Well this was my first race so I pretty much did not sleep the night before. Woke up around 5:30 and ate a bannana, a small powdered donut and a bagel w/ peanut butter.
I stretched but because I was running late with getting all of my family to the race and situated I did not have time to get in the water to warm up at all.
