Pre-race routine:

This was pretty frantic. I got up at 3:30am and thought that would be enough time but it turned out not to be. Normally I would have liked to have at least 20 minutes on the trainer but I only got 2 and a half.
Event warmup:

Two and a half minutes on the trainer. Definately not enough.
Swim
  • 07m 18s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I used to like these types of swims but this was a disaster. The person who started in front of me couldn't have swum a 7:00 500 if she had a motor strapped to her ass. I caught her in the first 50. On top of that the water was really cloudy and really hot. Throw in the fact that my goggles fogged up in the first 100 and it didn't go well. This was not my best time.
What would you do differently?:

I will try to avoid races that start like this if at all possible. I thing I left 30 seconds in the pool today.
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

I need to practice jumping on the bike and running out of the water. I struggled a bit on both.
What would you do differently?:

Practice!
Bike
  • 33m 55s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.23 mile/hr
Comments:

The lack of a quality warm up hurt me a bit on the first loop. I couldn't get comfortable on the hills and I felt like my heart rate was too high. I don't think I left much speed on the course but the second loop definately felt better. Oh well, lessons learned.
What would you do differently?:

Better warm up
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

The transition was extremely crowded and racking the bike was sketchy to say the least. Other than that this is one of my fasted T2's to date.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the running dismount.
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm still giving away time on the run leg but that will get better. The course was nice and I even ran past a coyote that was just hangin out next to the trail. He was only 3 feet away! As for the run performance, I think this is a PR in a tri so I can't complain at all.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I just need to continue to focus on the run for a bit.
Post race
Warm down:

BEER!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being unprepared to race well. I went into the race with an indifferent attitude and it showed in how I felt. I still pulled off good times but it wasn't the best performance for me.

Event comments:

The transition could have been set up a lot better. This was by far the worst set up I've encountered in a tri. Trying to get 10 bikes in a 6 foot rack is impossible and should have been obvious. Other than that it was ran pretty well and there were a good amount of volenteers for this small of a race. If not for the pool swim set up, I would probably do this race again. They also had nicer awards than a lot of the big races so kudos for that!
