Swim
Comments: got in a cluster and we were swimming over each other, so I tried to break to the outside and got way off course. added some significant time, guessing around 1 to 1:30. Not happy. What would you do differently?: sight better, stay to inside even if it means swimming over others. Transition 1
Comments: I could not get my wetsuit off, even with tips and tricks and practice ahead of time. Very frustrating, lots of cussing. What would you do differently?: I do not know. Practice more? Do they make wetsuit shoehorns to pry me out of it? Bike
Comments: Started drizzling, then misting, then more drizzling, which turned into steady rain as I was ending the bike. Liked the last half, all downhill but it was into the wind so you were catching the rain. I got off the bike course before the pavement got too slick. Felt bad for the OLY and HIM distance guys because they were out in the really wet weather. What would you do differently?: Work on strengthening my legs and try to find some hills to train on. Everything in Toledo is flat flat flat. Transition 2
Comments: I do not have cips; my bike is old school and I already had my running shoes on, so I just racked the bike, took off the helmet, grabbed my hat to keep the rain out of my face and took off. Run
Comments: Hydration really fooled me this race because we were so cold and wet you didn't feel like you were sweating. I did not finish my Heed on the bike which hurt me during the run. I wish I could have run ten minute miles, but 11 minute miles are not too shabby compared to my last race. It was hard because I knew I could run faster but just could not make my legs go. Post race
Warm down: grabbed some food (banana, chips, peanut butter crackers) and water, turned in chip, chatted with family and waited for husband to finish OLY distance. stretched later, packed up, changed into dry clothes, walked back to course to check out the results. Event comments: AWESOME Race. 3D did a great job! And boy were we impressed with how many volunteers were out there IN THE RAIN, wind, and cold to cheer us on and help out on the course. Very well run, very good course and the setting is gorgeous. Just keep in mind it's September and the weather can be iffy. We were ready for that, so did not mind the rain and had dry clothes to change into. Also we brought plastic grocery bags to put over our transition area mats so our shoes, bike jerseys were at least dry when we got out of the water. That helped mentally and it was easier to put on dry stuff. I would highly recommend this race and am looking forward to doing it next year! Note- 3D had a beach party planned for that evening. We did not stay in Tawas so we did not go to the party due to weather, but it sounded like it was going to be a great event with lots of raffle prizes donated by area businesses. And there were quite a few local participants and spectators who supported this race as well. Last updated: 2008-06-03 12:00 AM

Transition area closed really early 7:45 am so HIM people could start. Then Oly distance started at 8:25, while the rest of us sprinters hung out on the beach until the women's wave went at 8:50. Stood around in my rented wetsuit and pretended to stretch.
Kind of stretched on beach in wetsuit. Hard to do.
