Swim
Comments: Hmmm - thought I was slower than the time indicates - maybe the course was short because I sure didn't feel that fast. I started off slower this race because in previous races I would get the feeling of impending doom from lack of oxygen! It worked out well, I was very relaxed, and it paid off in the long run. I picked up pace toward the middle and finished strong yet relaxed. Got off course a bit swimming the second leg into the sun. The Orange buoy was easy to spot, but the white one marking the final turn was basically invisible. What would you do differently?: Need to get a new pair of goggles and save them for race day so the anti-fog is good. Could go out a little faster and push a little more throughout the swim. Definitely need to get more time int he pool. Transition 1
Comments: First time I didn't have issues with my wetsuit hanging up on my heels. i used lots of PAM though. I'll continue on this path. Attached my shoes to the pedals and used rubber bands to hold them in place. Worked well but could still use some more practice on this advanced technique. It was definitely faster though than putting shoes on in transition and trying to run with them on. What would you do differently?: Not much! Bike
Comments: Hammered the bike - new PR and with my bike in a road bike configuration. Was very strong thanks to the off-season bicycle racing and training. What would you do differently?: Can't wait for next race when I have my new TT bike! Transition 2
Comments: Very fast T2 - came into transition flying with feet on top of the shoes. Made the racing staff nervous, but I was in control the whole time. Got out of my shoes a little early, but I don't think it had any negative impacts. What would you do differently?: Stay in shoes a little longer, and slow down a little more before jumping off (bottoms of my bare feet felt it when I landed). Run
Comments: Obviously I had a pretty good run. Passed several in my age group that passed me on their TT bikes during the bike portion. Gotta love pay-back! Started the run at 7:00 pace until I got my legs, then stepped it up to 6:45 - 6:50 depending on the hills. Lowere overall time accounts for part of T2 (transition splits are not separated out), and the fact that since nobody was pressuring me for position I slowed down to run in with my kids that were cheering me on! Great photo op. What would you do differently?: I still had some left at the finish, but it would have taken about a 6:35-6:40 pace to catch the next postion and I don't think that was possible in this race. I need to work more BRICK workouts and speedwork or the run. Post race
Warm down: Drank water and ate some food. Sat in the shade to cool down and put ice under my jersey to cool off. Stretched a little, but not as much as I should. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pool time, and lots of family activities going on Saturday and Sunday. Event comments: Great race. Excellent weather conditions. Set a new PR by 4:55, mostly in the bike portion. Last updated: 2008-06-03 12:00 AM

Ate a BP&J for breakfast and drank some Accelerade. Set up my transition area, registered, got body marked, and then applied some suntan lotion. Also had my kids racing so I helped them set up as well. Found out I was staged in the kids' reserved area and had to move. Ended up with a crummy location and was not happy!
Chased my kids around as they started their race about 30 minutes before mine started. They did great! Son took 1st place overall, daughter was 3rd in her age group.
