Swim
Comments: In swim training (2 days previous) started to breathe every stroke on right side. Cause me to drift to right as left arm was doing more work and compensating for right arm that was not full follow-thru do to breathing. Drifting to the right added some extra yardage to the course and wide turns at 1st buoy. Kep t even pase as was concerned with losing my breath if starting out too fast. What would you do differently?: Try to stay to inside of course. Need to work on rythym of breathing and maintaining even pull with both arms to stay straight. Transition 1
Comments: Good tranistion overall - suit was a little stuck on ankles, but using body glide on ankles/wrists and outside of wetsuit helped. 17/42 in T1. What would you do differently?: Rack closer to area of transition that is near water exit. Use spray can of slippery stuff to get out of wetsuit. Bike
Comments: Having only been on the bike 5 times for training prior to the Tri, I expected that it would be rough. Within 3 miles of start was passed by probably 15 riders. Stayed in saddle for all hills. Tried to keep up cadence, but not accurate monitor as Iforgot my Forerunner. Chain fell off at mile 10. Quickly unclipped and replaced chain in about 1 minute. Another 5 riders probably passed me later inrace, including some from the wave that started 3 minutes behind mine. What would you do differently?: Need to train hills and just get out for more workouts. Bought bike in late March and did not ride enough to get good feel for the bike. Need to get aero bars and also get handlebars/shifter position adjusted. Will take to bike shop before next Tri (coming up 6 days later in Madison) to get aero bars added and get full fit to bike. Need to try to keep 20mi/hr pace. Transition 2
Comments: Very smooth. Lacelocks definitely helped. Noticed that right shoe did not have laces up to top eyelets from adding lacelocks the night before. Some clutter (wetsuit, etc.) on my shoes from late arriving biker next to me (who squeezed bike into rack). 21/42 in T2. What would you do differently?: Run faster out of transition. Eventually get bike shoes with one velcro strap rather than 2 straps + ratchet. Run
Comments: 1st mile felt very long. Re-gained full legs at about 3/4 mi. After the turn (1/5mi), tried to spot person in front of me and pass as little goals to keep motivated. Passed by about 15 runners. Poor kick at end. What would you do differently?: Try to get rythym and longer strides early in race. Push it more - just go all out. Need to focus on having a good kick at end. Post race
Warm down: Very little stretching, which would hav ehelped in long run. Ate refreshments and rank several water bottles. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of bike training. Not enough energy on the run - need to go harder. Event comments: Thought it was a good effort and proud of the results. Goal was to finish less than 1:25 and was achieved. Need more bike training !! Need to stick to a formal/written training program. Last updated: 2008-06-03 12:00 AM

Bro-in-law was in town from Seattle and helped with swim training 2 days previous and helped with transition night before the race, which was extremely helpful. Practiced in and out of wetsuit.
Race Day > Awoke at 3:50am. Laid in bed for 5 minutes. Thought about how I went to bed at 9pm night before but could not fall aslepp until 11pm. 2 slices of peanut butter on whole wheat toast. Left at 4:10 for the race, picked up bscharff (BT'er) along the way. Banana and protein bar in the car on way to Lake Mills. Realized just before we got to the race that I FORGOT MY GARMIN FORERUNNER WATCH next to my bed where I charged it up. Arrived at 5:30am and got a good position on end rack in trasition area.
Jog approx. 1 mile along run trail course.
Swam approx. 8 x 25yd in warm-up area just prior to swim.
