Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

bagel with pb, rode up to the race with two of my friends.
Event warmup:

umm, no warmup. SEriously.
Swim
  • 09m 53s
  • 481 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Umm, this swim sucked!! I got sunblock in my goggles so they fogged up immediately. The water was nasty too - slimy bottom that I didnt want to touch! (I know, I'm a pansy). I never got into a freestyle rhythm. I HAD it in Philly, why can't I get back into a good OWS rhythm??!
What would you do differently?:

I think I need to mentally prepare for the swim like I did in Philly. Plan ahead for the hyperventilation, just relax. And get some more OWS practice in
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Transition went well after I wiped some muck off of my face.
Bike
  • 45m 42s
  • 16 miles
  • 21.01 mile/hr
Comments:

I ROCKED THE BIKE. MAybe too much..... it screwed up my run. But anyway, I averaged 20mph for the first time in a race. YAY!!
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Your run of the mill transition. I keep needing to re-tie my shoes, I need to get them ready better.
What would you do differently?:

get my shoes tied before transition. (Slip my feet into the shoes)
Run
  • 41m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a run for the first 0.75 miles, then I was pissed that i started walking. From that point on it was walk 0.1, run as much as you can , walk 0.1. I honestly think this is more of a mental thing. I should be able to tough it out in the run. However it WAS HOT!!! that day so that was part of it. And I had just given my best effort on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I think maybe more brick training.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and got some water.... stretched..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Composure in the swim and energy management / heat / composure in the run

Event comments:

The race itself was really well run and well organized. The fire co did a great job as marshalls, esp during the run when they were heckling people from the ambulace(that was histerical!) I gotta say though that the lake was disgusting.... that would be the only factor with me doing this again.
