Swim
Comments: Swim went well. Best part was the start when a little girl yelled out to her daddy, "Daddy, don't stop swimming!!" Good advice, huh? :) I'm glad I got in for the pre-swim. I'm a bit of a warm water wuss, and the initial shock made my breathing freak out. Luckily that was just practice. During the race I was fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Long sandy run from exit to sidewalk, then a decent distance to transiton site. Most of my time was spent getting to transition, rather than in it. What would you do differently?: Run entire way. Bike
Comments: Once I got on bike I had a splitting headache for the first 5 miles. I got some fluids into me, and it finally subsided. The steady rain and road conditions took a minor toll, but only on the downhill twisty sections. Other than that, I did not slow down much. I saw lots of competitors walking their bikes, and one guy in front of me I saw and heard his tire blow. I stopped and gave him my spare tube, and he was very appreciative. It only cost me 20 seconds or so, so no big deal. What would you do differently?: Considering the weather and how I felt, not a lot. I was racing within myself and within training parameters. Transition 2
Comments: Transition went very well for me. What would you do differently?: I don't think I could have done too much better this year. Run
Comments: The run continues to be my Waterloo. I just need to run lots more this winter. I ended up having to walk for one minute and run for one minute at a few points. What would you do differently?: Run the entire way. Post race
Warm down: Find my water bottle as soon as possibel and polish it off. What limited your ability to perform faster: My run was atrocious. My swim and bike were right in line with my practice times. Event comments: I think there were 4 people overseeing the .6 mile swim course. Good luck, if you had an emergency. I don't think the HIM swimmers had too much more oversight either. Race started 1/2 hour late, which threw off my swimming warm up. I ended up getting in the water twice, because I was out of it for so long, I wanted to get used to it again. There also was not a race-day onsite race briefing for routes in and out of transition or anything else for that matter. We got our swim route briefing while in the corral. Everyone was guessing until then. Last updated: 2008-06-09 12:00 AM
