Swim
Comments: Fog was rising over the water making it really hard to see the bouys. Coming back in also was looking into the sun with the fog, so made it difficult to site. Found out I have a big hook to my swim. Probably cost me 200 metere in time. What would you do differently?: Open water swim in training. Pick a landmark above the bouy. Work on not pulling to the left. Transition 1
Comments: Uphill 200 yd run. Very rocky coming out, almost fell. Socks went on a little slow. What would you do differently?: Could have been quicker, maybe left googles and cap on until on the grass. Bike
Comments: Had a side cramp/abdominal cramp from the beginning. Must have broken my Sunglasses in transition because about mile 7 I noticed they were jabbing me hard. Flat tire killed me. Probably cost 15 minutes. Tough slogging up the hills, cost me speed on the downhills. Strategy of giving Alex the tool kit and then passing him and getting it back if I needed didn't work. I didn't catch him until the end. What would you do differently?: packed a repair kit and fixed the tire Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, spent a little extra time trying to get Alex to eat/drink What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Felt really good off the bike, despite all the extra work. Seat post may be the trick. Held back a little at that point, since the race was pretty much done. Used it more of a long run rather than a race pace workout. Probably could have run it `4 minutes faster What would you do differently?: If the rest of the race would have been good, I would have cooked it faster. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: - Had a side cramp/intestinal cramp for the entire bike/swim. Not sure it cost me a bunch of time - Broke sunglasses putting them on and then realized they were scraping my head about mile 7 of the bike. - Flat tire killed me on the descents on the back side of the course. - Slept about 2 hours the night before. Event comments: Great race, tough course, good organization and people. Had a lot of things go bad, but hung in and finished the race. Not the time I expected, but even though the SAG wagon was lurking, I stuck with it. Great deal of learnings for the next Olympic I do. Super weather and Alex & I both finished. Even a bad day at a Tri is better than a lot of other good days. Last updated: 2008-06-09 12:00 AM
