Swim
Comments: My main goal was not to panic and I accomplished that one. I seemed faster than I thought I would be and never had to stop to catch my breathe. A lot of people walked so I ended up right at the buoy line which worked great for sighting. I did find myself looking up a lot more than I normally would because I was afraid I was going to get kicked or I would bump into someone. I did semi run over a lady which I felt bad about. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I need to build confidence and get faster, but that will come with time. Transition 1
Comments: Again no chip so no clue on how well I did. There was a very long run from the beach to the transition area which really jacked my HR.I had everything layed out so did not forget anything this time . What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I really rocked on the bike! I was in the last wave so passed a lot of people along the way. No one passed me back, even this guy on a really cool looking tri bike that looked like he should have kicked my butt. Two long coursers on Cervelos using disc wheels did pass me and I felt like I was standing still. Too funny. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I worked as hard as I could given my experience level. I think learning proper cornering will be on my short list of to-dos with my new coach. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot my race number and realized it when I was about 1/4 of the way on the run. I briefly thought about going back to get it and then thought "are you crazy?". What would you do differently?: Not forget the #! Run
Comments: I was gassed by the time I hit the run after pushing on the bike. The cross country start and finish was tough. I could not have pushed any harder. I did not drink anything during the whole race. Given the distance I think that was probably ok. What would you do differently?: I need to learn proper pacing from the bike to the run. I typically go all out in short distances and hope like heck I can hang on. When I move to a full sprint or Olympic this will not work so well. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a bottle of water, watched some finishers and packed up my gear. As it turns out I was first in my AG because I rolled up. The female winner was 43-49 (old ladies are awesome!). I was also the fifth female so I was kind pumped about that too. All in all, I had FUN!!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. Event comments: I had a lot of fun for my first time. Talking to other athletes of all abilities was great. Such nice people. I think this is a well run, small town race. If you are looking for a first time event this is pretty good. Last updated: 2008-06-09 12:00 AM

Up at 4:30am for coffee and a couple of pieces of toast. Headed to the race location around 6:15am.
Since this race was my first and all about the swim, I put on my wetsuit and headed to the 4 acre man made lake to get comfortable. I did all the stuff Mark taught me-burped my wetsuit, dunked, floated and swam 400 yards, took off the wetsuit and talked to folks. Did another 200 yards right before my wave. I was good to go. Not the least bit nervous which is so weird for me.
