Swim
Comments: Having struggled so much my first race, I started in the very back of the pack...Big mistake. I was constantly swimming into feet. Had I started nearer the front, I would have cut considerable time off of the swim. One guy panicked right in front of me 50m into the swim. I had to stop and go around. Then immediately started catching people. By the first buoy I got into the position I would keep for the rest of the swim. I sighted off a guy using a tall snorkel who was swimming exactly my pace. What would you do differently?: Start further up towards the front. Transition 1
Comments: Remember that I am RACING not out for a Saturday a.m. stroll. I just slow footed it....stupid What would you do differently?: Race not goof around Bike
Comments: The first 2 hills right outside the beach area killed me. People were passing like I was standing still....Once I got comfortable, I hit it pretty hard. I could possibly have ridden harder, but for the lack of Brick work, I think I did it at just the right effort level What would you do differently?: Bricks...more of them. Also more time on the trainer at night. Had I done more Brick work, I would have been more confident to go harder on the bike and be able to run afterwards.... Transition 2
Comments: Only 3 people had longer t2 times than me....How I can be over a minute slower than the top5 is beyond me. Maybe I was delirious at that point.. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions...lots Run
Comments: My lack of brick training cost me. I was hurting big time the first half mile. Found a comfortable pace after a mile then passed several peoople the last 3/4 mile... What would you do differently?: Bricks...a recurring theme, eh? Post race
Warm down: failed to stretch properly...actually, at all...Paid for it with a sore IT band since.... What limited your ability to perform faster: Biggest thing was my wifes work schedule. She had to work a bunch of nights in the two weeks before as we were on vacation the week before the race. So that was 3 weeks that I really missed keeping the legs going. Event comments: Loved the race. Am definitely doing Macon again in '09 but plan on it being a HIM.... Last updated: 2008-06-10 12:00 AM

As usual, arrived later than planned. I'll blame that on my wife. She makes sure we have everything we need, but IMO, too much is too much. We got there 30 min. before transition closed. Ate oatmeal from Cracker Barrel on the way from the hotel.
Actually did a warm up swim this time. Makes me wish I had before my first race in May. I did about 200 yards. Very comfortable the last 1/2 of the WU....Then stood around and watched my wife start with the Open division (she did the aquabike division).
