Swim
Comments: The beginning was crowded and so I was having trouble breathing without swallowing water because I was getting pushed around a lot. After about 300 yds, flipped on my back to cough up the water and settle down. Then found an open spot and started swimming. Got into my rhythm and felt really good. Swam on the inside of the course, but since I was fairly far back in the group didn't have any crowding. Drafted for a while, but realized that I could easily go faster so passed and didn't draft the rest of the swim. Passed some people from the 4th and 3rd waves -- go me! But I kept looking at them and thinking how they must feel. Loved all the time to think while swimming. And the algae/plant life wasn't too bad. What would you do differently?: Need to get used to starting in the group and learn to breath while getting pushed around. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time here because I didn't want to forget anything (which happened in our practice tri two weeks ago.) What would you do differently?: Start to push the pace of T1 Bike
Comments: Wanted to make certain that I left something for the run, so I didn't push too hard. The first half went about as expected, slow on the few little hills. The 2nd half had a little headwind and I really seemed to be slow. Was incredibly slow up the last hill but made the conscious decision to just keep a high cadence to rest my legs. Overall, didn't push too hard since I didn't know how I'd feel on the run. Also, glutes/hamstrings started to tighten up about mile 12. What would you do differently?: Build up my power/endurance on the bike and push it more. Transition 2
Comments: Had to stop to use porta-loo (about 1 min). The rest went fine. What would you do differently?: Learn to PWB? Run
Comments: Felt good. Found a good run turnover and held it. Walked the aid stations but ran all the rest. Felt a little tingley just before mile 2, so had Gatorade at that aid station. Had water (maybe 4 oz) at the other aid stations. Dumped water on head at all aid stations to cool down (temp was probably around 75 by then.) Glutes/hamstrings still tight. And my right foot/toe joints started to get their weird "dislocated" pain feeling about mile 2.5. After another mile they started to go numb. Should probably see a doc about that... Loved seeing Kristi and Holly on the run -- really helped to pick me up! (Even though they were way ahead of me.) What would you do differently?: Learn to run faster! Post race
Warm down: There was no warm down... Crossed finish line, found Holly, Tom, Ben and chatted. Did a little stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to work out the kinks in my hamstrings/glutes. Will be seeing a PT next week about it. Event comments: Loved this race! Good RD, good volunteers, fun time! Last updated: 2008-06-10 12:00 AM

Got up at 5 (slept great), ate half a bagel w/pb and water. Dressed and checked out of room. Stopped by Starbucks so Tom could get a mocha and scone. Ate the rest of the bagel. Got to the race parking lot about 6:15, right when TA opened. Need to remember a backpack rather than gym bag for stuff, since it was about a 1/3 mile walk from parking lot to the TA. Setup TA, chatted with Kristi and Holly. Hung out at the TnT tent. It was all very relaxed and I had NO nerves! What a shock! Got into wetsuit about 7:30. Had a Hammer gel. Drank more water (total was about 34 oz... maybe too much?)
I was in the 5th/last wave. So waited until 2nd wave went off then got in water. Swam about 200yds. Then chatted with Holly while we waited.
