Swim
Comments: I have no idea how RunFar did the timing. When I looked it up on the web site it looked like they showed results by sex; not overall. And if it is by sex, they didn't break it down by age group, so I just looked at my age group and figured out how I stacked against the other 40-44 year olds for age group rank and then by all women in overall. I'm so glad I warmed up before the race. Anything is better than what I've done before my open water swim starts- nothing until now. I felt good at the start. I found my rythmn early I thought. I tried to sty right next to the buoys and did a good job of that. A breaststroker got the best of me for about 200 yards. She was a good breastroker! What would you do differently?: Get out a little earlier and not be so nice to let others by. :) Train more. I know I can swim faster. I thought I'd gone faster, but I felt good. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition but I fogot my gel in my transition bag and had to dig for it. Finally got it and was off. What would you do differently?: Make sure gel is in bento box- duh! Maybe one of these days I'll try and have my shoes on my bike and not wear socks. The couple of seconds shouldn't bother me but in the heat of the moment, sometimes I wonder... Bike
Comments: Again, not sure how ranks were figured. I did it in my age group, then by all woman for overall. I didn't wear my HR monitor. I think that helped me! Once I got my legs, I felt good. I was averaging 17.8. I felt great! Once the rollers hit on Cele, I slowed to 17.4. Then the long false flat took me down to 16.8. I knew I had to make it up so I pushed it a bit on 130 and got it back up to 17.0 by the finish. I felt really good that it took Deena until mile 12.5 to catch me. My big accomplishment for the day! She's a good cyclist! What would you do differently?: Training will help... but I think I've come a long way in a short amount of time. Transition 2
Comments: Awesome transition for me. Grabbed my race number and my flower hat and skipped on out! What would you do differently?: Nothing except run faster. That will come with training. Run
Comments: This is my most challenging event of the three needless to say. I did a lot of run a little, walk a little, run a little, walk a little. I started off good. Kat gave me a positive boost as she passed me and the rest of the way I just ran when I felt I could. Without a HR monitor, I went on perceived exersion. I felt like I was in a race but not going too hard. I had a lot of confidence and got a lot of comments on the flower on my hat. I was just so proud of myself for being out there and accomplishing something that so many people think is impossible (even though I know it's not). I pushed it at the end especially hearing the cheers from the crowd. I wanted so badly to see Mike at that moment, I couldn't beleive it. I saw him and he gave me a huge high five that was the rocket boost I needed to finish strong. What would you do differently?: Just train more. I'm doing better! Post race
Warm down: I walked it out with Mike, drank water and connected with friends- Kat, Christine, Deena, Jamie and waited at the massage tent for about 10 minutes for a birthday massage. When the guy in front of me got off the table, they packed up to leave. No massage! Oh well. I didn't take it as hard as I could have. Better luck next time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training and weight. The weight will take care of itself once training gets more intense and consistent. Event comments: Great race! I liked the volunteers positioned along the bike course in two's. The water stations were always ready when I came by on the run with cups in hand. The race packet was very thorough; maybe a little too much but great for beginners, but very organized. Parking morning of was very well done. Positive atmosphere and lots of portapotties available. Toilet paper may need to be checked a few times but evey good triathlete should be prepared for anything, right! I will definately try and do it again next year. I'm curious with a year under my belt (after 3 years off before that) will make a difference. Exciting to think about... Last updated: 2008-06-10 12:00 AM

Got up 4:45 to eat oatmeal and have much needed coffee. Grabbed nutritoin and out the garage to grab our bikes and found I had a front flat. Mike fixed it and we were off.
Met some friends and chatted a bit and then jogged across the dam with Mike for about 10 minutes.
