Age Group Rank = 15/41
Pre-race routine:

The standard pre-race breakfast (PB&J, Banana & Coffee). Out the door at 6:15am w/ Julia, the boys & Ocky. Max was still working the Ocky man crush.
Event warmup:

15 min easy up the 1st section of the run course w/ Ocky then a 10 min WU in the water before the gun.
Swim
  • 29m 32s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me. I accomplished my goal to go sub 30 minutes. I was able to get in a groove and did a better job of drafting. Definately liked the 2 shorter laps opposed to one big one.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Transition was terrible - I couldn't get the wet suit off and actually ripped it some more. Looks like I'll need more duct tape. I felt like I was in transition for ever. The different gear didn't help either. My guess is that I lost about a minute here.
What would you do differently?:

Ask Mrs. Claus for a new wet suit.
Bike
  • 1h 58m 5s
  • 20 miles
  • 10.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Great change of pace to race on the MTB. I accomplished my goal to go under 2 hours so I'm real happy with my time here. This made the race. The only real problem was that I failed to get water at aid station #2 and ran out before I had to climb through the burn area. A hot dry climb with no water - not smart.
What would you do differently?:

Pay better attention to where the aid stations are and plan accordingly
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Good Transition. Don't think I could do much better here.
Run
  • 42m 25s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough run but a fun course. My Garmin had the course quite short of 5 miles and there's no way I ran a sub 9 minute pace. Anyway, running well off the bike is where I need the most work.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks, more bricks, more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooling off in the lake and spending time with the boys as we watched for Ocky and Brian.

Event comments:

As Ocky and were talking about - at the end of the day we were fortunate enough to race. For my 1st Xterra, this was a blast. Great to have the family, Ocky, Brian and Todd out there. Xterra will definately be a part of my future race schedule.
