Pre-race routine:

Got to the track early with Sara, Erica and Bill to watch some of the Porch race. The cool thing about this race is that it is at Watkins Glen race track and before the 6PM start they have a Porch race going on that is not open to the public. You get a chance to watch some nice cars go fast around the track and talk with some of the crews.
Event warmup:

None other than jumping up and down trying to get warm in the cold rain.
Run
  • 12m 44s
  • 1.75 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Went off hard to try to warm up, the air and rain were real cold.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Shoes were a little wet from the rain. Changed shoes in every transition not on the bike.
Bike
  • 34m 6s
  • 10.2 miles
  • 17.95 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a fun bike course and more hilly than I first thought. The banked curves where nice as you could keep up speed and stick to the track. There are two downhill sections that it was very easy to hit 40+ MPH. The first turn was a little tricky on the first lap after the first lap as I took this wide as there was a slight downhill leading into the turn. The corner is not as wide as it looks as there is a little wall that if you do not see would ruin your day. Luckly I did not hit the wall.
Transition 2

Back to running my normal pace
Transition 3
  • 00m 56s
Bike
  • 34m 17s
  • 10.2 miles
  • 17.85 mile/hr
Comments:

A lot of people droped out of the race on the bike. The wind was really picking up and was right in your face for the end of each loop.
Transition 4
  • 01m
Run
  • 15m 7s
  • 1.75 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran hard and did not leave much in the tank. I was wheezing at the end trying to keep my pace up and finish strong.
Post race
Event comments:

The post race food was lame as they were running our of food by the time we walked over. The girls and Bill were working the finish line so were the last ones to leave. The bugs around the area also made us want to leave early.

Very unique race and I would recomend giving it a chance. I will be there again in '10
