Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and took a five minute, if that, shower because there was no hot water in my hotel even though it was only 5am. Drove out set up my junk and was a bit more hurried than normal all morning long. I kept forgetting things and making little mistakes. I caught them all though.
  • 18m 30s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters

I started towards the back and immediately got behind a wall of slow people. I am not that fast but I would have like to have gotten around this and gotten in clearer water.
What would you do differently?:

I would start closer to the front. I don't mind having people swim over me I just don't like doing it to other people. I also need to sight more. I have gotten a bad habit of swimming of course and adding distance onto the swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m

This was a slow transition. I was having problems getting my wet suit off and then I put the suit over the bike rack. It was dripping right into my running shoes so I decided to just throw it on the ground. I was slow drying my feet off and getting my socks on. It was just just a bad transition.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice transitions, race without socks, and see if I can't get used to leaving my shoes clipped into my bike so I can run through transition faster.
  • 48m
  • 16 miles
  • 20.00 mile/hr

This was an excellent bike ride for me. The time is an estimate because I don't have the splits. I caught and passed a ton of people and I never got passed once. I used an easier gear on the way out on the uphills and changed gears at the turn around so I could push harder gears on the way back which was mostly downhill.
What would you do differently?:

I still have a tendency to want to be comfortable throughout a triathlon. Being comfortable a whole race means your not pushing hard I just need to push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s

This was a slower transition than in Helena.
What would you do differently?:

Find where my bike is racked faster and get my shoes on faster.
  • 19m
  • 4.83 kms
  • 03m 56s  min/km

It was pretty good. I caught a hand full of people and never got passed. It wasn't as strong as in Helena but I pushed harder on the bike. I also had to stop at one point because I didnt know what direction to go in so that wasted a good 15-20 seconds.
Post race
Warm down:

I had some gatorade and I Sat around and waited for awards ceremony. I ended up getting the bronze for my age group because the top guy overall was in my age group.

Event comments:

All the times are estimates. I do not have the splits for this race and the overall time is within a few seconds.
