Age Group Rank = 5/9
Event warmup:

My hips were sore from the race the day before. I just stretched a little.
Swim
  • 11m 43s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 20s / 100 meters
Comments:

I liked swimming in the pool. It's what I'm used to. I need to learn how to flip turn. I think that would help my time. I still need a lot of work on my stroke and more practice too.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

I was 16th. It's okay but I still lost a minute to the top racers. I need to learn how to jump on my bike and then clip in as I'm going down the road.
Bike
  • 34m 23s
  • 19.96 kms
  • 34.83 km/hr
Comments:

I changed the gear on my bike when I was setting up my stuff in the morning. I thought I had it in a lower gear than I did. I pushed the highest gear the whole time. I made a huge mistake on the hill though. I pushed the biggest gear up the hill at a snails pace and it wore on my legs at the same time.
What would you do differently?:

I would have paid more attention to what gear I was in so I could shift down on the hill and go up it a lot faster. That hill prob cost me a minute at least.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

57th out of 106. Yikes! To start off with there was a lady's family talking to her in the transition area right in front of my bike rack. That took time and was frustrating. Non-racers shouldn't be allowed in the transition area during a race. Then my insoles kept bunching up when I was trying to put my running shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice transitions. I never have and now that I see how much time I am losing to the top racers during the transitions I am going to practice them.
Run
  • 21m
  • 4.83 kms
  • 04m 21s  min/km
Comments:

I think that the run might have been a bit long. I can't imagine only one person running a 5k under 21:00. It was an okay run. I pushed myself hard on the bike so I probably didn't have as much left for the run as I normally do.
What would you do differently?:

Not run a 10K the day before.
Post race
Warm down:

I didn't stretch or anything. I paid for it too. My calves tightened up and I am still sore two days later.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to practice transitions, improve my swim, and not make a dumb mistake on the bike.

Event comments:

The company this race used to do the chip timing was excellent. The results were available right away and not days later. That was nice.
