Swim
Comments: This was my second triathlon swim and I improved significantly. I didn't get flustered in the group at the start and was able to keep calm throughout the race. I kept telling myself to swim my own race and not worry about how fast some of the others were going. I didn't backstroke at all and the only times I wasn't free styling were when I was sighting for the buoys which I need to improve at doing. I finished in the middle instead of the back of the pack this time. That being said there is still a lot of room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Sighting and I need to improve and economize my stroke. Transition 1
Comments: I was really tired after the swim but tried to hurry through the transition. Bike
Comments: I didn't do as good on the bike this race. I think part of it had to do with pushing myself a lot harder in the swim. I also started off in a higher gear and was afraid that if I shifted down my chain would fall off. There was a nice wind to contend with too. I passed a few people. One passed me back and I followed him back to transition. Right before transition I was passed again. What would you do differently?: Start off in the same gear I did in Kalispell. It allowed me to push relatively hard and handle the hills with ease compared to today. I would have drove the course so I knew where the turn around was. I was wondering how much farther the whole way. Transition 2
Comments: I got out of transition fairly fast. I beat the one guy who passed me back on the bike out of it. Run
Comments: This run felt a lot better than the last tri I was in. My legs felt great from the very beginning. I caught the other guy who passed me on the bike within a quarter mile. I never got passed once. I caught and passed quite a few people. There were a lot of olympic distance athletes on the course at the same time though. What would you do differently?: There were just a couple short lulls where I could have kept my focus and speed a little better. I was the fastest runner, by over 20 seconds too! I should have used my legs more on the sub par bike leg. Post race
Warm down: I just put my stuff in the car. Talked to another athlete and watched the kids triathlon. That was pretty cool. Then I went to the drawing and awards ceremony. I got a medal for finishing third in my age group. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to push myself more on the bike, keep putting the time in on swimming and get a better stroke. I thought my time would have been faster than my first tri but the swim was 200 meters longer and there was wind on the bike. I only finished a minute slower so I am not too disappointed. The first tri I was 28th overall and 15 minutes behind the winners. This time I was 12th and only 10 minutes behind the winners. Event comments: This was a good race and I look forward to doing it again. Last updated: 2008-06-13 12:00 AM
