Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5:30. Had some coffee and cereal and ran through my checklist for about the 100th time. Got to the start at about 7 to get my transition set up. There were tons of bikes there already and everyone was taking up tons of room! I finally found a spot and got my gear all ready.
Event warmup:

A little jogging to get my legs warmed up and try to calm the butterflies.
Swim
  • 09m 2s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty much a cluster out to the first bouy and everyone was losing their mind trying to get around it. I was getting a little frustrated with the madness so I went to the deeper water and tried to get away from the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Start more toward the front of the mass to avoid the pile-up.
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Had a little trouble with my helmet because the straps were a little twisted. Put my shoes on in transition because the grass was sloppy.
What would you do differently?:

I think that more practice with this transition will make it better. :-)
Bike
  • 37m 26s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Awsome bike. I was passing people all over the place. Right after the turn-around I was taking a drink from my bottle and dropped it when trying to put it back. It rolled under my bike and I'm lucky I didn't wreck. Oh well, could have been worse!
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Steep downhill to run bike into transition and it was a little sloppy too. Had to concentrate on keeping my footing.
What would you do differently?:

This transition went awsome. I was really happy with it.
Run
  • 26m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run. I didn't feel like I was going as fast as I was but I felt suprisingly good starting the run after the bike. There was a huge hill to get out of the park and onto the road that slowed me down at the start but I got back to pace quickly.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe I was a little unsure because it was my first one. Now that I know what to expect I think that I could go harder and put more into it.

Event comments:

Great race! I was surprised at how organized and on-time things were, especially because they were putting on 8 or so races. Some single races don't have their stuff together this well. I would definitely do this one again.
