Swim
Comments: The pool gates were finally opened and people started to walk in. Because of my swimming background, I jumped into the 2nd pool and did a quick 2 lap warm up. I was able to calm down the nerves as it got closer to my start time. Even though the swim was uneventful, I still was not happy with my time. I know that I can go faster. Transition 1
Comments: I got out of the water feeling good and not realizing the fight that was about to happen. I get to the transition area thinking this should go quick. Socks on (check). Cycling shoes on (check). Heart rate strap on (check). Shirt on (check?????) Not so fast my friends. In the background, you could hear the bell go off for the beginning of this one round TKO fight. The announcer grabs the mic and starts with "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages. To my right I have an idiot that did not dry himself off. To my left I have a cycling jersey that has taken offense to that. Lets get ready to ruuuuuuuuumble!!!!!!! I grab the jersey and put first arm through no prob. As I start to put my second arm through, I decide to pull the jersey over my head at the same time. Before I know it, the jersey has me in a rear naked choke hold with me tapping out. Game set match goes to the jersey. I def wasted a good minute and half wrestling with that stupid jersey which mocks me everytime i pass it. What would you do differently?: Dry off after swim Bike
Comments: Start off with some good speed as the beginning of the bike course is down hill. As I settle into my ride, I am averaging 22mph on the flat road thinking that i could actually have a better than avg first bike leg for a first timer. Little did I know that that avg speed was going to be short lived. Ed meet hills. Hills meet Ed. I went through the first hill thinking (wow that was a little more difficult than expected. I hope that there aren't a lot of these). Coming off the first hill, I hit a record speed for me at 41.1 mph. If I crouched down any lower on the bike for more speed, the bike would have been on top of me. Sorry to be so crass but going that fast of a bike made me pucker up a little bit. W&OD trail rides did not prepare me for these at all. Hill #2 (ok, this is not fun). Hill #3 (quads are starting to curse me out). Hill #4 (legs are so mad at me that they stop talking to me and go numb). Hill 5 (i can't get to the the small rings fast enough). DAMN you hills!!!!! What would you do differently?: Need to work on hills ALOT more. Transition 2
Comments: Uneventful. Legs were gassed from the bike course but thought I did a lot better in this transition than in the first one. What would you do differently?: just need to more a little faster Run
Comments: Ran out of the transition area with legs cursing at me for signing up to do this triathlon. Start with slight incline and then do down hill away from the pool. I make a right onto the main road and say hello to the 1st of 2 hills (my legs again stop talking to me). I try to keep a fast pace determined to finish strong with a sub 8 and a half min mile. That lasted about 20 feet up the hill. New goal, just don't walk. The first half of run was mostly uphill which had me thinking that walking part of this run was inevitable. Fortunately, I was able to push through to the turn around feeling good that i didn't walk. I felt even better that the second half of this run was mostly down hill. I got to the entrance of the pool with the uphill driveway but was able to power through and run through the finish line. WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!! First triathlon officially in the books. What would you do differently?: Need to do more brick workouts after hill bike workouts Post race
Event comments: This was my first tri so had to rate it as average as i don't have a frame of reference. Last updated: 2008-06-16 12:00 AM

Here goes my first Race Report ever. Sorry if too long.
So the night before came and I found myself running around like a
chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything on my list
packed. I finally got the bag packed ready for a pickup and go type of
morning. The alarm went off at 4 am making my night's sleep seem like a
5 min nap. I looked at my phone for the 4 hour snooze button with no
success. On the road at 4:30 and at the pool parking lot at5:30.
During the drive over I looked over at my fiance to notice that she was
out cold which made me hate her more than ever. :o)
Got the transition area set up and thought to myself "wow, i have a lot
more space for my stuff than the other suckers in my row. woohoo!!!!! "
I realized that someone was going to need that room for their bike and
stuff on my second trip back to the transition area. My inner me
started laughing at me and said way to go genius you gave the other
person no room for their stuff. I fixed my stupidity and was worried
about what else could go wrong.
