Swim
Comments: went to breath every stroke just past the first bouy. Swimmers all around me whole race. between 3rd and last bouy, started drifting in (towards center of box) alot, may have lost 10 seconds adjusting. on home stretch someone was drafting me seriously, my toes were like chest level on him... took a while to shake him, just started kicking harder! What would you do differently?: more practice, otherwise very happy with time! Didn't hypervenilate this year like last, because went to breathing every stroke. Every 2 strokes is holding my breath to long, and that's when I freak out. Transition 1
Comments: 125/280 on T1. Had to put on Garmin 405 watch cuz can't swim with it. Put watch, sunglasses, and helmet on before removing rest of wetsuit. Gave me extra time to catch my breath before attempting to put socks/shoes on. Worked great! DO again next time! Didn't have to sit down at all. Jogged very slowly on soft-sand beach to T1 split area, so added time to swim cuz I didn't run. What would you do differently?: Go back to my Timex Ironman so I don't have to put on watch in T1 area. Bike
Comments: Only 1 person passed me the whole bike! He was on a screaming Cervelo. I must have passed over 50 people, So I was very happy with the bike performance. :-) What would you do differently?: takre creatine before race, don't put in bottle cuz I never finish it in a sprint! Transition 2
Comments: 47/280 Did quick 1/2 second stretch of each calf, quad, and hamstring What would you do differently?: Since entry into rack was from opposite side than entry from swim, lost a few seconds looking for right rack. Mark both sides of the rack if entering from both side. Run
Comments: calves were slightly twinging like they were gonna cramp the first half mile. Kept HR between 177 and 179 until around mile 2 then I picked it up to 180, then after 2.5 picked it up to 182/183. Last 100 yards had an amazing kick, everyone was cheering and couldn't believe how fast someone was runnnig at the end of a tri! What would you do differently?: Probably could've went to 180HR after 1.5 miles and held it for rest of race and maybe could've took 1 minute off of time. Post race
Warm down: walked around, ate pertzel, Snickers Marathon protein bar, rest of juice in bottle, water, orange What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing. could've went faster with better conditioning. Event comments: Started a few minutes late. Sean gave very good pre-race briefs. 4th out of 50 in (largest by far) age group! Missed 3rd by 1:11. Got 4th last year too, I think.... Next year! Woke 5:45, drank gatorade, ate Snickers Marathon Energy bar, went to John's @6:30, and left for race. Dropped shit off @ T-area, parked @ Dougs, jogged back to T-area for warmup, got marked up, took a dump.
Jog to T-area, swam to 1st Bouy & back twice.
