Event warmup:

Because I didn't get up early enough and picked up my packet race morning, I didn't have much time to do a proper warm up. I rode the bike 1 mile from the parking lot to the transition area. Then I waited in line to get race packet and body marked. Ran about 1/8 mile and swam for 1 minute. Pretty sad warm up
Swim
  • 22m 10s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think the swim is my weakest area. I think my endurance is there, I know my technique is horrible. I liked how they blew up a big flappy green man on the beach so you could sight where you wanted to end up.
What would you do differently?:

Get some lessons on technique and do a proper warm up.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Running up the hill out of the transition area was tricky and I ended up spilling a lot of the gatorade out of my aerodrink bottle all over my bike and myself.
Bike
  • 54m 45s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

I had to slow down at times, due to people just coming onto the bike course, merging with people that were on their second or third loop.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in aero position as much as possible.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Due to a lack of research/practice, I didn't have my shoes oriented the right way to get out of transition area.
Run
  • 33m 17s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 06m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Yeah, I got a little confused towards the end of the first loop. There was a sign that said something like "first loop, go left", "Second loop, go right". Well, I thought I was supposed to veer right since I was starting the second loop. Before I knew it, I was crossing the finish line. When I realized what I did, I had to run through the crowd and get back into the run. It probably added 30-45 seconds to my overall run.
What would you do differently?:

Be more familiar with the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran up the darn hill again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

There was a lot of room for improvement on the swim. If I could exit the water with the faster group, I would have been with the faster bikers and it would have motivated me to stay up with them. Definitely a domino affect.

Event comments:

Nice to have a race local to me. I liked the fact that the roads were partially closed off, so it was one less thing to have to worry about. I would definitely do this again, as this is very friendly to athletes of all abilities.
