Swim
Comments: Well, due to the bike path crossing traffic at the end of the course, they had to hurry up and get everyone in the water and out on the course fast. So multiple age groups were combined into waves, and they were only 3 min appart. So needless to say I got run over multiple time by dudes in waves behind me. To the first buoy was basically a freakout fest with whole inner dialog of "OMG! Why do I do this? I can't breathe! How do I ever think I am going to be able to do an IM?" After the first turn it got a little better, and on the final stretch I was trying to let my balls drop, but swimming is just not my thing. It's the whole head game piece of it. Can't get over my water freakouts. Anyway....I survived, but had probably one of my slowest swims every. Blah! What would you do differently?: Swim like I do in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: Had to mess with getting your wet suit and towels and stuff in the plastic garbage bag, and tie it up so they could transport it back to T2 for you. Bike
Comments: My whole goal was to not drop my chain. Still trying to get used to my compact. Had to go out on a bike path, and not really pass anyone, but once we got onto the road, I was moving to my left to pass a girl, and this dude who that he was all that passes me on the left so close our shoulders brushed!!! I said "THanks for the ON your Left!" He said "You're Welcome!" And I replied with "ASSHOLE!" Nice. Nice little climb about a mile out of transition. A few long steady climbs and a few short steep ones. The longest stretch of pavment was this horrible road that every 10 ft had a huge bumb where the cement slabs heaved up due to the flooding. AND it was right into a headwind. Was only able to pull 17 on that stretch, but as soon as we hit the turn around, I was able to go 24. I felt pretty good on the bike, and my ability to pedal through most of the turns. Transition 2
Comments: Had to un-tie my run bag from the bike racks. Ran out with my bike gloves on. Shoved them in my tri suit back pocket. Run
Comments: As I left T2 I checked my watch and it said 2:02. I was like SWEET!!! If I have a good run, I can beat 3 hours. I have not been able to do this yet. Toes were really dead at the begining of the run. Right away you are going downhill. I couldn't really let gravity take me because it hurt my toes too much. Just kept chugging along watching my HR, and working the hills. As I passed Happy Joes pizza, there was a picture for Scrambled Eggs pizza. I about vomited. That was the last thing I wanted to think about. I knew the last mile was going to be tough because it was uphill. (Who planned this race)? I didn't walk any hills. Just kept chugging. As I entered the finish area I had my eyes on a chick in front of me, and I ran her down to cross the line before her. WOOT! Have no idea if she was in my AG or not, but just felt good to give that final kick. Post race
Warm down: Walked straight to the Wells Blue Bunny frozen novelty booth and had me some frozen cream!! mmmmm. I puddled around, had some food, and ran into a guy who lives down the block from me. Haha. I don't know him, but just through talking we discovered this. Pretty funny. Event comments: This race was extreamly well organized and staffed eventhough they had to move it and change it and do all this last minute crap to pull it off. Great race, great swag, great volunteers, huge finish line/grandstand. Last updated: 2008-06-22 12:00 AM
