Swim
Comments: My swimming is slow but steady. I found my rhythm early and stuck to it. I drafted a little off of one guy but he was too fast for me and pulled away. I veered off to the left a few times but was able to correct myself quickly. What would you do differently?: I probably could have picked up the pace a little. This is my second tri and in the first one I started too fast and lost my rhythm and had to resort to sidestroke to catch my breath. I did not want to do it this time so I deliberately held back. Transition 1
Comments: This went well. I took a few seconds to put on my HRM and shirt. I need to get a Tri top and will probably not use the HRM for my next race. What would you do differently?: Get a tri top or go shirtless. Dump the HRM. Bike
Comments: I enjoyed the bike course. I think I pushed myself just hard enough to get a good time but leave a little in the tank for the run. I passed lots of people and was only passed a few times myself. I passed quite a few people in my age group which was good but I knew most of them would re-pass me in the run (and they did). What would you do differently?: My hill climbing could use some work. Transition 2
Comments: No issues here. What would you do differently?: Be faster. Run
Comments: Running is my weakest link. I had two goals this tri: 1. Finish and 2. Don't walk! I succeeded on both. It was tough and I really wanted to walk several times but I HTFU and ran on. This is actually a good time for me. What would you do differently?: Run faster! Post race
Warm down: Water, gatorade, popsicles, and a cold towel. Found my wife and we hung around waiting for the results. What limited your ability to perform faster: My running is weak and needs work. More base training and more miles. I need to not be afraid to push a little harder on the swim. Also, I did not sleep enough the night before and I think this affected me near the end. Event comments: This was a well organized and well planned race. The starts were on time and not chaotic. The RD is a great guy and he did a great job. The volunteers were also nice and helpful. I would have liked to seen one more water station on the run. Two water stations for a June run in TX with no shade is tough. The post race food was a little weak but I didn't come here to eat so it's minor to me. Overall, it was a great little race! Well done! The competition was tougher than I thought it would be but I'll be back again next year! Last updated: 2008-06-23 12:00 AM

Up at 5:10. Cereal, coffee, loaded up and out the door at 5:50. The race was only 15 minutes from my house.
Drank some water, chatted, light stretches.
