Pre-race routine:

Got up at the butt crack of dawn and drove about an hour to the race site.
Event warmup:

Does squeezing my anal sphincter together while standing in line for one of three port-a-potties count as a warm up?
Swim
  • 13m 49s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was one of the worst swims I've had in a long time. I got tangled up with a couple of guys around the first buoy, and I got frustrated and flustered. I tried to put my head down and go around them and ended up getting about 50 yards or more off course. I had to swim back to final turn buoy to avoid a penalty. To top it off I got off course again on the way to shore. To say I navigated poorly is an understatement!!
What would you do differently?:

stay calm, practice navigation in open water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

After the swim I was really frustrated with myself. Instead of putting things aside I sadly focused on what I had just done poorly and let it get to me. My heart rate felt a little high.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on the race left instead of worring about what just happened.
Bike
  • 34m 52s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I started the bike kind of flustered from the swim with a higher heart rate than I would have liked to have had. There were enough rolling hills to kind of zap some of my MOJO. About half way into the ride I felt like I got back on track.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

The transition was uneventful.
What would you do differently?:

go faster
Run
  • 24m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Sweet lord there was one muther of a hill at the turn around point that sucked every last bit of go juice from me. Prior to the hill I kept wondering why the people that were coming towards me had such painful looks on their faces. Boy did I find out!! After the big hill at the turn around I rand down the hill and up several other rolling hills to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

run faster
Post race
Warm down:

laid on the ground, drank some water, drank a diet coke, ate an orange and a firehouse sub.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had a hard traing week, but I allowed my race to go in the bucket from the beginning.

Event comments:

NEED MORE PORT-A-POTTIES!!!
