Swim
Comments: Was supposed to be 800M, but winds the night before completely blew one of the markers away, and pushed the others all over the place. The course was LONG, with everyone saying that it was 1000-1100M, plus a 150yard run up a hill to T1. I'm still relatively slow (actual swim was 23:42 or about 2:00 - 2:10/100 yards), but OWS is feeling better. Pacing was fairly consistent and sighting was better, but I did go out a little fast thinking this was a 800M course (if not shorter as it has been in the past). It felt good having several folks from my wave still around, and actually catching folks from the earlier waves. What would you do differently?: Gotta keep practicing OWS and sighting, and working on general swim speed/efficiency. Transition 1
Comments: Transitions are getting a little better with practice, but I'm still slowed by putting on my socks and bike shoes (roadies with ratchet strap). The wetsuit did get a little stuck this time getting my left leg/foot out. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing, and consider going sockless (tried in practice, but my feet weren't happy in my run shoes) or get tri shoes. Bike
Comments: I train here a lot, so I knew the course pretty well; especially where I could push it and how to take the hills. Still riding my roadie, so 20+ mph seems pretty good to me (the course was 13.1 miles instead of the advertised 14). Had a little trouble getting clipped in at the start, but then passed a ton of people! What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Getting faster, but it does take time to get the (road) bike shoes off and running shoes on. What would you do differently?: Tri shoes that I can leave clipped in and some elastic laces for the running shoes? Run
Comments: Legs felt a little heavy this time, but I did push a little harder on the bike. Overall, I'm pretty happy pulling low 7s at the end of tri. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked around and got some pizza and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim is/will be the hardest part for me, and can cut some time in T1/T2. Event comments: I like the fact that the race is only 5-10 minutes from my house and they do packet pick-up race day. This is definitely a smaller (capped at 500) race that is friendly for the more casual triathlete -- there were still plenty of FAST people. Overall, I'll probably do this event next year as it is so convenient and fairly well run. Last updated: 2008-06-23 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:00am, showered, had the usual breakfast, and out the door.
Maybe 100yard swim to get used to the water/wetsuit and practice breathing and sighting.
