Swim
Comments: This swim was not seeded. Start times were based only on when you signed up. I got passed by one guy early that was flying. I passed a girl doing the backstroke and while I was passing her, I came up on a guy that was just floating on his back. We were still in the half lanes so it was pretty dicey passing him. I "sprinted" past them and then had pretty clear swimming for the rest (pretty clear for a pool swim anyway). What would you do differently?: I hadn't swam much since IMLOU, so maybe swim more, but not a bad swim for me. I'm not used to swimming in a 50m pool and I really swim better after a warmup which was not available. Transition 1
Comments: The transition times are lumped in with the bike time. I split out my bike computer time and chopped what was left in half. I had a little trouble getting my aero helmet on right. Other than that, transition was pretty smooth. What would you do differently?: Practice more with my aero helmet, IMLOU was my only other race with it and I wasn't in much of a hurry there. Bike
Comments: I planned and did push the bike. It was a little windy, but not too bad. I got passed once early on in the bike, but was keeping up with the passer (about 10 bike lengths behind, not drafting) until we came upon a slow moving white truck. He made it passed with no delay, while I got delayed by some oncoming traffic. After that I didn't see him or get passed again. What would you do differently?: Happy with this bike time. A winter of speed/strength work and I think I can move up a level on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: I'm still a little slow getting socks and shoes on, but have no desire yet to run without socks. What would you do differently?: Didn't forget anything, so all was well. Run
Comments: I thought this was gonna be a 4.8 mile run, but the results say 4.4. I'm not sure if I'm happy with this run or not. 4.8 = 7:45 miles :) and 4.4 = 8:30 miles :( I felt ok during the run, I knew I had pushed the bike and would feel it during the run. There were no markers so I have no idea about my splits, but I think I negative split the run. I felt good about 3/4 into it and had a good finish. What would you do differently?: A winter of speedwork should help with these shorter runs. Post race
Warm down: Found family and friends. Showered and packed up. Went to Golden Corral and refueled. What limited your ability to perform faster: IM training. Sporadic post IM training. Event comments: Awesome facilities. Great race atmosphere. Hope to be back twice next year Spring and Fall. Last updated: 2008-06-24 12:00 AM

Stayed the night in St. Peters. Saturday went shopping with the family and then watched Bama squeak by Kentucky.
Drove down and set up transition and got marked. Went back to hotel and picked up the family and dropped them off at Denny's with my parents. Went and watched the start of the race. My offset start time was 1:50:15, so for the 7:30 start I would start about 9:20.
No real warmup, just standing around and then waiting in line to start.
