Pre-race routine:

I went to a suprise 30th b-day party the night before so I stayed at my parents house the night before in Metamora about 5 min. away from the event. I woke up with a sharp pain in my back that started the day before. I jumped in the shower and ran some warm water on it to loosen up. Normal breakfast wheat bagel w/ cream cheese, 2 slices turkey bacon, 8oz milk, 4oz OJ and a bananna.
Event warmup:

Walked around the event. Talked to Matt and met a few other BTers. Wish I had met more. Set up transition and hung out with family. Went down to the beach and stood in the water thinking what did I get myself into?

I was hoping for a better swim than this. I averaged a faster pace in training and thought I might be faster with the rented wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more, and rethink the use of a wetsuit.

This went as good as it could have for not using a wetsuit before and it came off pretty easy.

Practice getting a wetsuit off faster.

I was really slow. I just could not get any power to the legs. The first part was ok the the hills came and I walked up some of them. I just did not have anything left.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more. I need to do more bricks and run more. I did not run much over this distance in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Hit the restroom. I had to go on the bike but held it until I finished. Drink, eat and be merry. I saw my family then went straight for the food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to train more. This was my forst race at this distance and I was not trained enough to go faster and harder. I need to spend more time working on endurance to have the run go better.

Event comments:

This was a good race. The food could have been a little better but greasy pizza is always good.
