Swim
Comments: Plenty of kayaks and support personell. The fog made it difficult to see the markers. What would you do differently?: I have to work on improving my swim before next year, I need more speed. Transition 1
Comments: I put my shoes on the top tube and ran to the mount line then put them on, was a good idea and worked well until my bike rolled away from me. What would you do differently?: Next time I will hold on to the brake lever to steady the bike and keep it from rolling away. Bike
Comments: Although the course is said to be a "rolling" course it seemed to me to be mountains :) I was cramping when I came out of the water and it got worst as I got farther into the ride. It was very scenic and was a very challenging ride. What would you do differently?: I will ride more hills and start riding in N. Wilksboro and Boone. Transition 2
Comments: Managed to get my feet out of my bike shoes and not fall, wreck or take anyone else out. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was one of the best T2's I have had to date. Run
Comments: This was the absolute hardest run I have ever attempted. I have run a few hills but nothing like what I saw here today. What would you do differently?: Like the bike segment I will run on this course a few times a month and train harder so that I can run the whole course next year. Post race
Warm down: As I crossed the finish line I was greated by my wife, children and friends. My youngest daughter (my little triathlete) had a powerade waiting for me. I was also met at the finish line by fellow BT'ers by Keyone and Stevesseer who congratulated me on a strong finish, that meant alot. I then drank, ate and got a nice massage before leaving for home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of appropriate training and a poor 2 week training period leading up to this race, not to mention I picked a heck of a race for my first Oly and third triathlon ever. I did achieve my objective and COMPLETED the course in under 4 hours and next year I will train using a structured program and training in N.Wilksboro to improve my overall times. Event comments: This was the hardest thing I have EVER done in my life, I actually had to keep telling myself that "pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever. I lost track of how many times I wanted to stop and just go home but I kept on going. It was also the most rewarding feeling I have ever had crossing the finish line with my children running along side me and encouraging me and my friends and family supporting me.
