Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 38/41
Pre-race routine:

Camped at race site - up early - pack up gear - bagel, Hammer Heed, Hammer gel then ride bike to transition
Event warmup:

Some jogging, alot of stretching
Swim
  • 41m 59s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Always a slow swimmer. My dark goggles were fogging up constatnly. Could not see. This wasn't an A race, so i wanted to go through thing s properly and get it right.
What would you do differently?:

NEW goggles
Transition 1
  • 05m 41s
Comments:

Slow transition. Was worried of being cold on bike. Took time to dry off and put on arm warmers. Wasn't in hurry
What would you do differently?:

More practice, hurry more. Have shoes clipped in.
Bike
  • 1h 35m 16s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.65 mile/hr
Comments:

I was chilly as expected to start bike. Rolling smooth, but not fast. Had a small mechanical with derailluer cable, fixed in jiffy. Last 13 miles were good and fast, but too late
What would you do differently?:

Need to race hard from get-go. I've got potential to, but need to work on things more. My attitude today was let's get put in the time and go through motions
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Slow again. found rack ok, brought training shoes, so i had to tie them. Got fluids, gel ok.
What would you do differently?:

Race shoes with Yankz! more urgency
Run
  • 53m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Good Run. Been so weak running, that this was fun. Some say course was 6.5 miles, not sure. I was consitent and smart. Took endurolytes at water stops. Can't wait to come back.
What would you do differently?:

Wear racing falts, not run lighthouse run day before and come to race healthy
Post race
Warm down:

none - reload on food

What limited your ability to perform faster:

health. illness last 5 weeks and weight loss has weakend me. A healthy finish was a pleasure. I kept all food/liguids down during event.

Event comments:

Nice race - good perks. Course is well done, but not closed to traffic - be careful. Run course is good, but would like gel pks at 1 station. Post race isn't fancy, few fruits and chips and drinks. I'm planning on coming back in 2009
