Swim
Comments: Started great, made the first turn actually going somewhat straight. I decided I was going to swim slower and sight more, rather than swim fast but be way off course. I kept this motto until the last turn where I determined I couldn't go wrong getting back to shore. When I did come up to look after about 15 strokes, I saw people in front of me going from the first turn to the second so I had alomst done a complete U turn. Got back ontrack and headed to shore. Couldn't get around one guy and when I thought I had made it around him, I came up on his feet. The ladies were coming from behind and I knew I was slow and in their way, sorry. What would you do differently?: Sight more, need to be faster and breath bilateral. Transition 1
Comments: Nervous about clipping in, since it was my first race with clipless pedals. Success. Sort of. I will explain later. Transition wen't well. Got my breath, took a drink of Amino Vital, got shoes, socks and shirt on with no problem. What would you do differently?: Nothing, well....put my shirt on before I put my helmet on. That cost me a few seconds. I think my head was still full of water and wasn't thinking. Bike
Comments: Ok, well I started going down the hill in the biggest chain ring. As I started halfway up the hill I knew I needed to get out of it, but either my pedals weren't going enough or something was wrong, because I couldn't get out of the big ring. I didn't have a problem the rest of the race, but I spent a whole lot of time and energy just getting up that first hill just because I couldn't change gears. I took all the big hills slow because I didn't want to die on the run again. What would you do differently?: Start in small chair ring if there is a hill. Get more comfortable with new bike and get it checked out. Transition 2
Comments: Average, T2. I jogged and walked my bike in. Racked it and drank some drink and stretched for a few seconds not wanting this run to be a killer again. I dreaded this since my last race. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Great. Since my avg. mile for training has been around 8:30 or 9, I was very happy with my time and how I felt. I had some tight calves up the first hill off the grass and was around 10 mins for my first mile. After that I felt good and cruised the last 2. Nobody was around me for the finish so I really had nobody to chase. Got passed going through the shoot, but didn't care because he wasn't in my age group and it was too late to do anything anyway. What would you do differently?: Nothing, confident I could get my run time down with more training and can push the bike a little harder. Post race
Event comments: Only thing I was not a fan of is letting people get their bikes post race when people still haven't finished the bike portion. I would say 50% of the people had their bikes out so I thought everyone was done. While I was getting my stuff ready, I saw some older gentleman come through finishing his bike and getting ready for his run. I cheered him on, but felt bad that he had to avoid everyone trying to get out of there while he is still working his tail off. Last updated: 2008-06-27 12:00 AM

Since the kids woke me up at 4, I just layed in bed at the hotel from 4 until 5:30 when I ate a banana and took a shower. Got dressed while the Mrs. got her and the kids ready. Put everything in the car, got ready, tried a bite of bread but my stomach wasn't ready so I drove to the race. Got there, parked, setup everything and waited in line 30 minutes to piss, which was stupid considering we were int he middle of the woods. Oh well.
None, ran from port-o-potty to transition area to get swim cap and goggles.
