Swim
Comments: we entered the water on the North side of the lake and then we headed West, around one buoy and up to the point of the triangle and back down to the buoy on the East side and back to where we entered the watter. I started in the front of the pack and I started out fairly fast. I didn't get kicked that much but there was quite a bit of crawling over people. I felt pretty good over all but I went out really fast in an effort to get away from people and I had to slow my pace down. For my second OWS this was a pretty good swim. What would you do differently?: I really want to get my time/100m down and I hope that a few months of master's helps. I probably wouldn't start out so fast and I'd focus more on maintain a steady pace. I also would not have had the free hammer gu that for some reason I wasn't able to keep from eating. I burped a little of it up while on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Ran out of the watter and got my cap and goggles off. I rolled my socks on and got my shoes on. I stood there and put my race belt, hat and glasses. Then I was off! What would you do differently?: My friends said that about 5 people passed me in transition. I did take my time getting everything on but for a small race like this I could have been a lot faster. I want to get some of the shoe "clips" or whatever they're called so I can get my shoes tightened faster. I also had to re-tie my shoes twice while on the run and I think these will help. Next time I'll get my race belt, hat and glasses on while running out of transition. Run
Comments: I must have swallowed a lot of water during the swim because my stomach was really full and it sloshed around a lot during the beginning of the run. This prevented my from really pushing the pace on my way out. I finally started to feel better at about the turnaround point. I did pass a few people but I was passed by far more people. What would you do differently?: IDK, how to prevent the stomach thing. I guess not swallowing water during the swim would be a good idea. Other then that I did about everything I could to go as hard as I could. Post race
Warm down: Just hung out with friends and walked around for a little. Grabbed my stuff and took off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming form and a stomach full of water before the run were probably the biggest limiters. I think my transition time was pretty good but I know it could have been faster. Event comments: Well I did it, my first multisport race! I feel great about the progress that I've made since surgery and I'm really looking forward to improving and racing more. Last updated: 2008-06-27 12:00 AM

I woke up at 5:30 after going to bed at about 11:30. I have friends in from out of town so I was up later then I wanted to. I made a PB and honey sandwich, gathered my stuff and drove to the race site.
After checking in I set up my transition area and made sure I had everything in the right place. I made a visit to the port-o-potty and then I just hung out and talked with some other athletes. At about 7am I started to stretch and warm-up a little. They allowed us to enter the water and swim around for about 10 minutes before the start of the race.
