Pre-race routine:

Up at 5 am. had a bowl of oatmeal with flax seed, cinnamon and raw honey. Got to the race site around 6:30 and found my racing partner Donna and her hubby Ed.
Event warmup:

Walked around the race site - gazed at the enormous swim course took a very short warmup swim, etc.
Swim
  • 32m 24s
  • 800 meters
  • 04m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a tough swim for me - not a strong swimmer at all - no problem with the hydrilla weeds until near the finish. Whew, I was spent and glad to finish.
What would you do differently?:

got to get better in the swim - more pool/OWS time!! Overall swim was average for my ability level.
Transition 1
  • 04m 51s
Comments:

I was sooo exhausted from that swim that I took a little extra time but all went smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

not be so tired from the swim!
Bike
  • 52m 26s

  • 16.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Third time ever on this course - was glad I had done it a week earlier. Ended up walking 1/2 way up the hill after the right hand turn (litte Mr. 'Tard) 'cause the rider in front of me slowed too much before hand and I couldn't get around to get enough momentum to get my big body up without stopping - oh, well. But this would happen twice again - the same person - looked very fit going at a good pace but she would brake on the downhills - argh! At over 200 pounds I need full speed down those hills so that the uphills don't kill me. But the rest of the route was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Be more assertive when it comes to passing - practice that damn hill!
Transition 2
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

Had a little trouble finding a spot for my bike several racked their bikes in a way that made it nearly impossible to rack mine with my transition gear, then when I did it knocked one of them off the rack - luckily away from their gears.
What would you do differently?:

don't know
Run
  • 51m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 16m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is soooo weak really my most difficult let - I was just so tired. My racing partner came out to run me in.
What would you do differently?:

run more -
Post race
Event comments:

My first race with my own ChampionChip and have had some trouble getting my results (didn't have the chip when I registered). This was a fun race and is my only coed race this year - will take a little getting used to - not in a bad way. Glad the rest are women only for my first season though.
