Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 7am, my heat was 10:25, had a bagel peanut butter and jam, just relaxed until it was time to go had gotten all my stuff ready the evening before.
Event warmup:

Ran around like a chicken with my head cut off, making sure everything was perfect!
Swim
  • 08m 58s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim is my worst sport, although better than i expected, have mainly been training kicking drills just to improve my balance, helped so much. Now i need to work on endurance and speed.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, well except for more training!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Everything went awesome, much better than i expected. Decided on socks since i hadnt trained sock less at all, socks and shoes went on smooth. walked out of transition in an attempt to be gentle with my cleats and their horrible plastic adapter plates (not that it worked)
What would you do differently?:

Train for having shoes clipped in.
Bike
  • 36m 38s
  • 18 kms
  • 29.48 km/hr
Comments:

Started out awesome, making up my time from the swim. Was feeling great until about 2/3rds into the 2nd lap and i noticed my left show was feeling lose in the pedal, on the top of my next rotation my shoe came right out!!! the plastic adapter plate for my cleats (SPD mountain bike style) had broken and the cleat was stuck in the pedal! so i had to ride the rest of the race with only 1 foot clipped in, which was quite limiting. Oh well other than that was a good strong race
What would you do differently?:

Change my pedals and cleats (doing that today) Push harder
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Since my cleat was broken, just decided to go all out and run into T2. Was a little shaky taking the shoes off, but by the time i had my runners on i was good to go, used speed laces on my shoes, worked awesome
Run
  • 21m 37s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Was a decent run, developed a pretty bad stomach cramp at about 2KM, but just pushed through it. Other than that was a good run, could have been a bit faster, but now i know what kind of a pace i can push in a sprint.
What would you do differently?:

Get my pace up to my regular 5K
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim was just pure lack of training. On the bike a broken cleat. The run was i just didnt push hard enough

Event comments:

Was an excellent first tri! Perfect course for someone just wanting to get a feel for the sport. Im hooked now!
