Swim
Comments: So maybe my lack of warmup showed here... After an entire year of swim training, I was SLOWER this year than last... ARGH. The swim was fine, but I knew while swimming that I was slow. I could tell after 5 minutes or so that my wave (yellow caps) had left me behind as they were all so "ahead" of me when I sighted. By the first buoy white caps (wave after me) were catching me. I felt comfortable, just slow... What would you do differently?: Warm up more, been more consistent in my swim training leading up to race. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit stripping went well. For some reason when trying to get onto my bike I clipped into the right side instead of the left like I usually do. This almost made me fall trying to get out of transition as it felt weird. What would you do differently?: Clip into pedals on my usual side. Bike
Comments: I was OK with this. I always try to average 25k/h, so on a hilly course I was happy. I didn't get passed too many times, and managed to pass a few people. Still having saddle issues, and found it difficult to sit on my saddle for any length of time. After 20k or so, found it difficult to stay in aero position. Felt my hill climbing was consistent. Was happy to have NO FLATS! Last year I had a flat 4k into the bike and took about 30 min to change, so this was all good... What would you do differently?: Get a new saddle! Transition 2
Comments: Had another good transition. We need to have a race where it's just transitions... I would have a chance and doing well in my age group for a change... :) Run
Comments: Felt good to start, then got caught by my occasional training partner Fabian. We ran the rest of the run together, and thank God for him as he really pulled my tired ass around that lake. I am sure that I would have been slower if I had been running by myself. We actually passed people out on the run - an ENTIRELY new experience for me... I was happy with this run. What would you do differently?: Have to make sure to have a running partner for all triathlons from now on... ha ha ;) Post race
Warm down: Ate pancakes... there were actually some left over for me! What limited your ability to perform faster: Have been "less" than perfect with training since the half iron as my motivation has been lacking... I was assured by many that my "base" would sill be there, and for the most part it was (swim sucked though..) Event comments: This was a great way to end my season. I definitely saw some big improvement in my racing this year training for my first half iron, and I look forward to building on the successes of this season. Bring on the off season! Woke up at 5am at the hotel in Victoria. Ate a piece of cocolate chip banana bread and some gatorade. Got the kids into the car and off to the race we went.
Got to the race and went straight to the potty. Then set up in transition, got marked and got my timing chip. Had 10 minutes to get my wetsuit on, and it was go time.
None. Went to the water for the start of the race and submerged to get wet.
