Swim
Comments: Started out to hard. I got really tired on the last 100yds but gutted it out. Stairs exiting the water were slick so you had to be careful not to fall. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: There is a long run from the water to transition, some of it on loose pea gravel. There are 2 speed bumps leaving the gardens so I had to make sure both feet were in my shoes as soon as possible. What would you do differently?: Get to the race a little earlier to get on the first rack near the bike exit. Bike
Comments: Rode hard, but legs just would not cooperate. I think the swim took a little to much out of me. The roads were wet and slick, so turns were very slow. There was stadning water on the roads so you had to be careful no to hit a pot hole. I saw 2 guys with flats not even a mile into the bike portion. What would you do differently?: Train more at all out race pace. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, decided to go without the visor and sunglasses. Had trouble getting my race belt to buckle, but bo big deal, I was running. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Pushed to hard on the swim and bike. My legs just wouldn't go as anymore. 200yds from the finish I passed a guy in my age group then he cought me about 50 yds from the finish. We both kicked it in, but he had a little more left in the tank than me and beat me by a half of a second. What would you do differently?: My achillis has been hurting since the Gulf Coast Half Iron Man, so my training has been limited. I need to do a lot more speed work for the next sprint. Post race
Warm down: Eat Jambalaya, cookies, fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough run training. Event comments: Overall a good race for me. 2nd in my age group so I am proud of that. My swim was very fast for me, but my bike and run were a little dissappointing, not quite what I was hoping for. This is a great race, especially if it is your first time in an open water swim. Very organized, lots of volunters, and good food post race. Last updated: 2008-06-30 12:00 AM
