Total Time = 1h 40m 43s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 7/40
Pre-race routine:

Woke up late. Rushed to course. Drank Ensure, coffee, water on the way.
Event warmup:

Stretch and warm up in water.
Swim
  • 15m
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt very good and strong. Visibility was poor and the water was very crowded so it was hard to sight the bouys.
What would you do differently?:

Spend less time worrying about sighting and more time putting my head down and swimming. Also, I need to swim closer to shore before I put my feet down and try to run through the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Not bad transition for what I had (or didn't have). I didn't have masking tape, so I couldn't tape my gels and sunglasses on my bike. Also, I STILL need tri shoes so I can start with my shoes on the bike instead of having to sit there at transition and put them on.
What would you do differently?:

Get tri shoes. Keep masking tape in transition bag.
Bike
  • 53m 48s
  • 18.2 miles
  • 20.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. First time to average 20+. I'm not used to riding hills and I'm not really in shape to do it, but the girls here were great cyclists, so I'm just glad I kept up.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills more. Ride more. Learn how to ride hills - talk to people who are good at it. Probably slowed down too much on corners.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Bad transition. Didn't realize I was coming up on dismount line so quickly so didn't have time to take shoes off on bike. Couldn't find bike rack. Passed it up and had to turn around to find it. Wasted a lot of time doing that.
What would you do differently?:

Drive the bike course and mentally plot out point at which to take off shoes. Bring a distinguishing something to put on bike rack to identify bike rack. This is the second mental error I've made in T2 (the Grandman - forgot to take off my helmet!). I need to be calmer and more focused in T2.
Run
  • 28m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run. Much faster than Grandman. It felt a lot better, too. I can tell I'm starting to get in shape. Still, I need to be around 24 or so, but low 28, almost a 27 is really good for me right now and I'm showing some improvement.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the run course the day before so I can see where the finish is.
Post race
Warm down:

Sit down, drink water. Then drink beer. Hang out post-race, watch awards, go to Superior. More beer and fish tacos.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of gear (tri shoes, new running shoes, tape, lighter/faster bike) and lack of training. I need to ride more and run more.

Event comments:

Great race and awesome competitors! So much fun! AWESOME race day packet. Can't wait till next year.
