Swim
Comments: I usually swim as fast as I can - not a good strategy. Given the new distance to me, I tried to pace myself on the swim and go at 80-85%. Managed to draft a bit, hit the turn buoy perfectly, overall a good swim. What would you do differently?: Maybe slow it down a bit more Transition 1
Comments: Had to wait at the entrance to the road while volunteers let some cars go by - not a big deal but it was a bit of a delay. What would you do differently?: Move a little faster .... organize my transition area a little better. Try to avoid the other guy's bike that fell into mine and kept me from getting my bike off the rack. Remind my Mom that I don't have time in the transition area to say hello to our Irish Wolfhounds that came to watch.... Bike
Comments: I thought this was a tough bike course - I expected it to be hilly and it was. What would you do differently?: I wouldn't do a long 4 1/2 our brick the weekend before the race - I didn't have a good taper. Tried to make up for lost training time. Maybe ride more hills. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition for me. What would you do differently?: Move a little faster next time. Run
Comments: Well, this is was my Waterloo. I didn't feel too bad off the bike and started out at about a 9 minute pace but it just got worse after that. As the run progressed, it got hot and the water at the aid stations was so cold I couldn't get enough. I drank at every aid station and walked a bit at each - this tanked my run time. Even though I tried to pace myself on the swim and bike, i just didn't have enough in the tank to pull out a good run. What would you do differently?: Not drink as much water. More long bricks. Post race
Warm down: Drank some Powerade at the end, loaded up the car and went to have some lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having never done this distance, I wasn't sure how to pace, etc. Next time, I'll be a little more savvy. Event comments: This is definitely a no frills race - if you're looking for a good t-shirt, big medal, freebies, etc. - look elsewhere. However, the aid stations were great, the volunteers were super, and its a beautiful course in the Adirondack Mountains. Last updated: 2008-07-02 12:00 AM

Grew up in the area so stayed at Mom's house.... Race day: Got up at 5:15, had coffee, oatmeal and peanut butter toast, drank a bottle of Heed on the way over to Tupper Lake. Kept looking at the sky hoping the rain would hold off .... and it did.
Chatted with Marmadaddy and Dudley from BT. They graciously put up with my nervous chatter as this was my first half IM. Great couple of guys.
Stretched a little.
