Pre-race routine:

Hung up in a detour in Kaukauna so i was 30 minutes late. Got to HC at 6 AM and parked a mile away. Got T1 set up and had to hit a BR, this is not typical for me, but I knew I had to go more and did'nt want to hold it. Missed the run and bike WU, not happy about that. Hit about 200-300 yards in the lake, apparently that wasnt' enough as you'll soon read.
Event warmup:

see above
Swim
  • 32h 45m 1s
  • 2112 yards
  • 1h 33m 02s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Relax and go out slow
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Not bad, need to find a faster way to get out of the suit with out cramping up.
Bike
  • 2h 47m 18s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Didn't want to go too hard as last year I bonked on the run. Legs prevented me from going faster, the HR was low but the legs were not responding well
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little harder on the first and last 10 miles
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
What would you do differently?:

Other than unbuckeling my helmet before I racked the bike, all was good.
Run
  • 1h 32m 35s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Loved it. Held back the first 10k, I could have gone 6:45's for sure or faster, but wanted to hang on for a strong finish....and I did.
What would you do differently?:

go out a little harder - break 1.30
Post race
Warm down:

chatted with Jeff, Rob, and Boo. Ate some pasta and hit the dusty trail.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

holding back

Event comments:

PR from last year by over a half hour, definately heading in the right direction. Need to knock some time off the bike and control the start of the swim better.

Not good. Got out to a quick start and guess what...panic city! Wet suit too tight, swallowing water, cant' breath, going to drown...stop thinking negative thoughts you idiot, you just swam 2.2 miles two days ago, this is a cake walk. Count your strokes, relax. NO, STOP, Bail out, nobody will notice, you can't continue. Wierd stuff, I finally relaxed and then it was off the races, I could'nt go fast enough, I hate it when this happens!
Suit: Pro Motion
Course: Rectangle with the current coming in, I should have breathed to the left going out, but i dont' practice that enough. It would have prevented swallowing some water though. I actually stood up at one point, did some back/side stroke and held on to a buoy.
