Swim
Comments: Have not felt 100% recently so I took it easy at the start and then picked it up as I was feeling good this morning. Felt great passing guys in the wave ahead by the first turn but then I was trampled at the second turn by three chicks from the wave behind us. I decided to draft them and realzed after 2 strokes that they were alreday gone. Very funny that I thought I could have hung on when they caught me after a 3 minute head start. I laughed at myself in the water as they disappeared. What would you do differently?: I think I "manage" the swim out of concern for the distance and my ability. I'm interested to see what could happen if I tried to kill the swim like I do the bike. Not convinced the effort is worth it but I need to have a real go some time and see what the time difference is. Transition 1
Comments: Very winded running up the hill to Transition. This should be faster but I think I gave it all I had. Maybe I did give it a go in the swim b/c I could not get my legs under me running to transition! What would you do differently?: I swam shirtless to reduce the drag. My shirt got snagged getting it on at the bike costing me a little time. Maybe time to go unitard...hmm....?? Bike
Comments: Went with no Garmin since mine is in the shop so this was PE the whole way. Came out feeling sluggish as usual and then steadily picked up the pace. I love passing people on the bike. It's the biggest rush I get in a triathlon. I think the Toad was the only one to pass me that I couldn't pass back. This is the first time we've really battled during a race and it started after the first turn when he passed me. With that new ride...he should pass everyone! We caught Tommy and he hung on with the toad and I and then I dropped off after a few miles of pain. I tried to keep them in my sights and I finally caught Tommy coming back into the park and caught rainbow speedo guy right before the dismount. As I ran down to my rack I saw the evil Toad Murphy running out of T2. I wasn't certain I'd catch him but knew it would be a fun run while trying to. PS - Did anyone see the Kuota twins with matching black K Factors and red and white unitards riding together? Just struck me as an interesting footnote What would you do differently?: Not much, this was a pretty solid ride for me. Keep riding hard in trianing to get faster Transition 2
Comments: Great dismount and then I jacked it up with my race belt. What would you do differently?: I tried the step into to the clipped race belt again and the belt was twisted up. Worst part is that I tried to make sure it was all set before the race. I think I need to run with visor and belt and clip it on the run. Cost me a couple secs (which when racing the toad are important) Run
Comments: This was a great run for me. The cloud cover was greatness and it definitley helped. This is the same run as Texas Man and that was hot and miserable last year. I Ran out of T2 and kept the toad in my sights. I also saw flomo right here and she was smiley as always so I did my best to match her enthusiasm and say hi! My legs felt really fresh and I gained on the toad as we approached the left turn to the turnaround. He saw me as he turned around and as he passed he accused me of faking my illness this past week! I came up on him back on the trail and had to decide if I would lay back and sprint it out at the end or go on by. We weren't quite to 2 miles so passing was a gamble as I would then be pacing him all the way in. I felt like I was running somewhat stronger than normal so I decided to go for it. I never looked back and just assumed he was there the whole time. After the turn I saw him and while there was a gap I never felt like it was large enough. I tried to run as hard as I could but I was hurting bad from mi 4-5. I saw Jenny, Craig, Jen and Peter on the run and had no energy to hardly say hi to anyone. I think the one person I said nice job to was Tommy and he returned the pleasantry by speeding past me at mile 5 like he was on a mission. I came running down the tail and saw jeepfleeb looking the other way so I politicked for some photos and tried to look fresh. What would you do differently?: Even the visor makes my head heat up so with no direct sun today I could have bagged it to keep a little cooler. Other than that I'm not sure I had much more to give. Post race
Warm down: Walked around to stay loose and hooked up with the Murphys, Jen, Craig and a bunch of the BT crew What limited your ability to perform faster: I can't go much fsater than this right now Event comments: DA puts on great events. I love racing the evil toad and it's great to have the other Murph's out too for once. If SoMo would show it would be icing on the tri-cake. Congrats to Jen on a great Oly and unreal improvement! I barely escaped my 1st place wife again. Congrats Z on another great race! You are amazing! Last updated: 2008-07-06 12:00 AM

No bagels in the house so I went with peanut butter and honey on the kids Fench Toaster Sticks. Some baked in maple syrup in those bad boys is very nice! Also had a nutri-grain and a banana in the car with a bunch of water and a little gatorade. Loaded up and was at the Murphy's right at the 5:20 agreed upon departure time but the Tri Tundra was nowhere to be found. Chalked it up to typical Murphy pre-race mind games and tried to Make The Most Of It and SPLOAT (yes, it is spelled correctly)
1 Endurolyte in Transition and swam out and back to the barrier with J.
